BR600 blower won't idle

Me Stihl BR600 idles at high revs (and cut-off switch bit temperamental) but otherwise fine - it would be nice not to have the thing spinning around every time I start it.  Throttle cable and trigger unit seems okay, air filter clean, spark plug fine.  Adjustment of the idle screw on the carb seems to do nothing...  Any ideas?

2 things to be sure of before getting complex with your BR600...are the the purge bulb lines ok along with the bulb itself ? Make sure the impulse line is undamaged and connected "both" ends. The basic settings of the carb (what is shown by the screwdriver holes )will probably be ok if you machine has or still has the limiter caps in place.

Just noticed this "gap" - this would indicate why the idle screw had no effect.  I'm still not sure why throttle cable is not retracting fully..

Check out if the hi idle setting that is activated when you set the choke is properly de activating after the choke is of .

Yup - but still not returning to a nice low idle.  Not sure if the cable is sticky or there is a weak/missing return spring?

I just did one of these. Was a strand pulled on the cable next to the carb, which meant the cable would only intermittently retract through the sheath to allow idle. We had been using it like that for months as it wasn't a pressing issue. Took longer than I thought to fit, I just ordered the whole part from stihl instead of buggering about threading new cable through old sheath and having to crimp ends on.
