10.8V impact wrench vs impact driver?

I know this isn't directly chainsaw, but I'm working on chainsaws, pedestrian mowers, ride-ons etc. 

 

I need a new cordless impact wrench or driver (either 1/4 hex or 3/8, depending). 10.8v.

 

There's air tools in the workshop for proper stuff.

 

My question is this; impact driver with 3/8 adapter vs 3/8 wrench with 1/4 adapter? I can't afford both wrench and driver at the moment.

 

Any opinions would be great!

Dont know what a 10.8v impact wrench is like but I am surprised what my 18v Dewalt impact driver doesn't move. Often need a spanner on nuts 13mm and up to free them but great for spinning stuff off with long threads or when they are sticky all the way. Very handy to have none the less.

18v is overkill for 99% of the stuff I do, and I have airtools for that stuff. The 10.8v stuff is absolutely perfect size for all day use, and powerful enough for most mower/saw/strimmer etc.

 

Just wondering which format to go for since I don't know if there's anything to choose between (say) Makita driver or wrench apart from the drive format?

I think if you want to do anything big you need to be 18v. Either way a wrench is much more powerful, although bigger, than a driver so if you're putting in screws all day I would get a driver but if you're doing anything with nuts you'll need a wrench which will do anything. 

 

I'm very impressed with the milwaukees of both and you can use the same battery /charger so if you get the other later it will be much cheaper. 

 

Edit: posted at the same time. A wrench is about 4 times the torque I think.

This is a drill, Driver and wrench to give you an idea of size if it's any help. The wrench is much heavier as well

I know you said 10.8V but Milwaukee M12 are very well rated for their size/weight

I have the Dewalt 3/8” 10.8v impact wrench and love it they pack 150nm of torque I only use it up to M8 bolts any bigger and I use my 18v one 

the little one is so handy and light gets into tights spots real handy too and the batteries last a long time

Thanks! This looks good value too with 2 batteries. Never bought dewalt before...

 

Also Makita seem to have changed 10.8v battery format and don't offer a wrench in the new shape.
