Ideally rigging kit should belong to a groundie, as a climber with the kit is pretty useless, its the experience of a groundie(s) that makes rigging work well or not.    As for pricing jobs,

If you get 90% of the quotes and do the work 90%+ quicker than the competitors would then your doing ok. Winning quotes and doing the job slower is pointless but you never really know how long someone else would take.

And for the Op. Get your rigging kit, make yourself into the most indispensable climber you can be and then put your rate up everyday. But turning up early and being fit and skilled (and keen) is worth as much if not more than some fancy kit.

What I look for in a climber is as much about someone doing 5hrs in a leylandii hedge without losing their sense of humour than it is about fancy kit.

I don't have that quality myself anymore!!
