Too many unknowns with second hand kit.
The jobs dangerous enough without stuff breaking.
Years ago got given a used "unbreakable" hatchet.
Back cutting a 4' diameter oak tree, tapped a wedge in. First tap the head snapped off.
20 ton tree wobbling in the breeze.
I buy everything new from reputable manufacturers now.
It's not snobbery, it's life saving.

I'm of a similar view as already stated.

The reason I asked is I recently spoke to a guy local to me who had been given some second hand climbing gear from his friend who worked for BT or some electrical company who climb pilons.

The only thing I considered usable I'm my opinion was a pair of spikes.

He on the other hand seen it all as perfectly usable kit.
