Can you imagine the responsibility in the shop in tracing a batch of chains that are all wrong. I could easily see some engine damage from running such a setup.

ok i went and checked that chain and i reckon that one link is 325 for sure,its factory made so to speak with no obvious join,i have another still in the box,will check it out tomorrow,never seen that before in my puff lol

Chain is assembled from a long length of chain,  cut to length and a joining link used to complete the loop. 

Operator is making up X quantity of chains of the same length and the bag of joining links he uses are the wrong ones. If the chains are coming direct from Oregon then that's pi55 poor quality control.  I bet it's not Oregon though.

 

Be interesting to see what packaging the chains came in.

the chains are 100% oregon,iv seen them come in on pallets,they are all individually boxed,iv been buying them for years with no problems whatsoever,the only problems that have occured before is the odd chrome tooth thats a bugger to sharp

Exactly . I have been making my own chains up for years ( have an Oregon spinner and riveter )  . You would have thought that an operator would have noticed it . Where is the QC at Oregon ! ?

Was that second new chain similarly affected ?

Your dealer ought to hear about this and if he's got any lead in his pencil he ought to get onto Oregon swiftish.

 

I'm not going to say too much but the implications of running that setup are not good - we have a responsibility to do something about it.
