Need a bit of help fellas. My pallax 35 recently developed a whine coming from the gearbox/hydraulic pump. The oil also foams and turns the colour of the inside of a crunchy bar.. ive changed the oil thinking water contamination, i cant find any leaks. Ive ran it at tick over and the oil still froths up. Any ideas?

Sucking air past the pump shaft seal?

Thanks osm. Is there a way of checking this or is it a matter of replacing the seal and going from there?

short of immersing it in oil nothing I can think of.  Are you sure it's not just the oil level is low? When the pump sucks its like water going down a bath plug hole, it forms a vortex and air can get drawn down.

If it's a aluminium gear motor the chances are if the seal is leaking the bush is warn and they are not replaceable.
