Just won one of these winches on ebay, looks tidy enough from the pictures and figgured for 1k you cant go wrong really

anybody have much experience of these winches? what to look out for? and any tricks and tips

Keep it under cover ! You dont want rust and shite over the clutch and main plate causing it to slip.. very easy to strip down and clean up the parts though... worth taking out a copper mallet if it's not been used for a while to bash the main shaft to get it to release as ours sticks for a while if not been used.. if you decide to strip it and clean it up make sure you get the free spool right you should be able to pull the cable with out it binding and try and keep the grease off the main plate!.

I've got a V6500

 

Cable lay is the only issue you can run into.  Winch something really heavy up to the winch when you first put the cable on the drum.

 

keep it dry, thats what is currently upsetting mine.  The guys at Osbornes are very helpful on the phone if you call.
