No, not burnt, although that might improve the flavour!

Grown some rainbow chard this year, great to grow and looks lovely. I just can't get over the taste - soil. It all tastes like mud, no matter how I cook it. Should it taste like this, or have I grown a lemon?

Yor're think about sorrel, that tastes sort of lemony.

Chard can have a strong, earthy, taste; mature leaves and stalks having a stronger taste than smaller leaves. It goes well in curries.

Love rainbow chard. Try this recipe for a raw salad.

Remove chard stalks, roll a few lraves like a cigar and slice thinly,

Soak a lemonn in boiling watr for 10 seconds to remove wax, Take zest off lemon and put in with the chard

Make bread crumbs with the bread, slice garlic thinly,&

Olive oil in a pan, a fair bit, heat

Fry garlic for 20 seconds or so then add breadcrumbs, keep moving bread crumbs, they will soak up all the oil, fry till they are very golden brown and crunchy, maybe 2 or 3 mins, careful not to burn them, add salt and pepper, plenty of salt

Set aside to cool

Juice lemon, mix with Olive oil 3oil to 1juice, add a pinch of salt,

Dress leaves with dressing, add grated parmesan and bread crumbs just before serving,

One of my favourite salads.

I absolutely love the stuff; the chard we grow doesn't have an earthy taste but more of a spinach kick.

That recipe sounds good Muttley; gonna nip to the allotment to grab a handful....

I'll give that a go Muttley cheers. I really want to like this stuff! Bit like seafood, I've spent years trying as much as I can as I feel that I am missing out on a whole gastronomic family by not liking it. It mostly just tastes of seawater, especially the shellfish...
