Steel Viper. UK Morbark Dealership

Don't forget folks that emission regs mean that many diesel engines will become a lot more expensive and include DPF filters which will become a service item. They will become heavier and more complicated. All machines will be subject to these changes.

I'm surprised that you seem to know so little about the market place, your competitors and what you are up against! Everything has it's place in a market but most Yank stuff just doesn't fit in the mass market of Europe. No doubt you will sell a couple of units but, I wouldn't advise trying to break in to the sub 10" market with the offering - it doesn't appear to suit our markets. Good luck, concentrate on the skid steer stuff.

You are completely right. This is not my market place and I'm having to learn a lot. My background is 100 tonne an hour chippers and grinders and heavy industrial installations which we also supply so, this side of the Morbark market is admittedly not my strong point. But we are willing to adapt and expand to suit everyone the best we can.

Yeh sorry, brutally honest! I believe an st6 new is around 17-18k, but thats only based on hear say, someone on here will have one and can say im sure. With the forst youre getting a much more advanced machine than what youre offering, and 4k price difference at that level prob isnt going to be a major consideration when it comes to performance, image, support and resale value. As demo'd in that video i think your talking about a 10k machine, add the features for the forst and its not hard to near double that. The kubota 35hp engine is about the gold standard in many of these machines so you need to be aiming for similar i would think.

Appreciate your input Tom,

I'll be sharing this with Morbark and I hope they take on everything and adapt to suit. I did say to Morbark that perhaps we should concentrate on the 12" plus but they are determined to get something us Brits will love

With stage v in the EU youre right, this will push dpf technology onto the smaller sub 56kw engines, but actually most of them will have at least a 3000hr service life before they need changing or cleaning due to the accumulation of ash. The best thing you can do is run the machine long and hard, short low temp bursts are what causes the majority of dpf trouble because the temps arent hot enough for the natural regen to occur. With the introduction of stage v, becausd the engine can run dirtier due to the dpf, fuel consumption should acutally improve as some of the calibration resyrictions will be gone.

3000HR Service of a dpf if used hard with decent fuel would be good but small chippers average a hour a day in short bursts. The local LA contractor recently did some stuff on the green space behind my house - they started that thing 8 times and did a total of 30 minutes of chipping which would shorten the life of any dpf! Even if it lasted 3000 hours, a grand on a ten year old machine would be hard to swallow......My local MOT tester has been instructed to look for tampered devices and fail if they show signs of interference - he has been told that it will not be long before the dpf in your car/van will need to be changed at £1,000plus every couple of years and that is not for environmental considerations but margins for dealers/manufacturers.

Would Morbark really change how they build machinery for a dozen units sold per year throughout Europe? Would they get away from the hundreds that they sell a year in the Americas etc just to suit a few biddy little buyers in Europe? I'd pin your hopes on the bigger stuff and try to meet Vermeer and Bandit head on.

I'd imagine with chippers they'd soon be taken off if caused any problems? What would you guesstimate the price of one of your 35hp 150s might go up by? I see there's a petrol option on your website now, are those much cheaper?

Morbark are committed to suiting the customers. They are even speaking about making a sub 750kg machine. Also what we make to suit the UK market will be spread across Europe which could result in hundreds a year. They want me to bring as much feedback as I can and we can see where we end up. Hopefully with a strong range
