201t oiling issues

I will be interested to hear what the problem is if you find out as a customer is complaining that his 201T C-M doesnt oil much. It must be enough as he says the chains run fine. I havent seen the machine yet but only ever had this problem on the 200's when crud would block the pump inlet.

Could be worth checking the oil tank breather is allowing air in, just make sure you drain the oil tank and leave the cap off before blasting some air into it.

Yeah I will updated the post, recently blown both the systems out so should run fine for a bit and I'll get hold of some other chain oil and see if that makes any difference. Thanks for the advice

The worm drives can strip their thread but is very rare on 201s and 200s. The oil pumps can wear between the steel gear shaft and the alloy housing, seen this a few times and the filter on the oil pickup pipe can get clocked as can the inlet union on the pump.....they are the typical faults.

You can try thinning your oil for a bit, it may flush the tank out but if the pump is blocked or worn then strip it down, doesn't take long.

Thanks I'll take a look at these points, just bizarre that it's happening to both saws and them being fairly new

Just had an MS200 in and the owner swears he changed the pump a year ago but the wear on it is of a ten year old one. Perhaps we have a dodgy batch??

Mark Skyland filled in one I missed. If the breather is blocked it will oil for a while before a vacuum is formed in the tank - seen it before and also seen the breather leak oil before now.

2 newish saws suffering same problem.

Brought back to being healthy after a thorough clean.

Sounds like "user induced problem" to me :sneaky2:

Could be the breather but that's a big coincidence, or is the breather also getting cleaned as part of the general clean up?

Are you finding much junk in the oil tank when you clean them? Sounds like you might be filling with clean oil and when out in the field the saws get something different, from an old dirty oil can maybe. ...

And if you take the oil cap off, release the vacuum it'll be fine again. ...for a while. Do both saws behave like that?
