Hello

I've an Ms460 that kicks back real bad through the starter handle when starting. It doesn't happen every time, but does most of the time. I've pulled three handles off now and snapped the cord once. It's ok with the decomp but my 390xp is fine without, so was wondering if the could be something amiss?

Check the the coil is the right gap to the fly wheel and also that the fly wheel key has not sheared and the fly wheel as not slipped round advancing the timing a tad .

I do believe that gap should be the same as a business card? A have a few on the fridge but they are all different thicknesses, would spuds one be correct or a slightly thicker one?

If the coil is too close to the flywheel then the ignition will advance slightly and bingo - big kickback. Try my business card and if it still kicks then try a slightly thicker one!

Cool will try that tomorrow. Whilst you're here is there anything else it could be so I can have a look if that doesn't work?

Well it hasn't really helped! Maybe the flywheel has shifted a tad? Is the nut that side standard thread? Because I've ripped the last few elasto start handles clean off, it just has the cord going straight through with a washer on the end, I suppose that'll make the kick seem worse, but it is rather epic!
