Work experience

I have a work experience chap with me at the moment who is showing some real promise as a groundsman and shows an interest in climbing. My gripe is his college course. I did the same course around 9 years ago and by this point in the course I, and lots of the students on the programme, had cs38 and 30 by this point.

I asked why they haven't gone in for cs30 assessment, and none have, and the reply is that the college have not taught them all they need to know. Now I am no expert but surely you would start of with cross cutting and maintenance and teach all they need to know to pass before going on to felling. Prior to doing a snippet of maintenance they done a portion of climbing and aerial rescue but again not enough to go for assessment!

If it gets to may, when the young chap is going for his car test, I will pay myself for him to go to the local training centre to do his tickets!

Is he from cannington by any chance, lad who started out as work experience with me has still not done his cs30, course finishes end of May still needs to do that, felling, and 39. That's a lot to fit in!

Your on the money their John.

Toxteth they have to pay for assessments so hopefully that is an incentive for them to turn up.

It's mad sounds like the chaps/ chapets on the one year course are in a worse position as it's less likely they will get the essential tickets they need to get employed in the real world!!
