maybe because the tree doesnt know what the next season will be like so when nutients and light is plentyfull it makes a store just incase it needs it, a bit like squirrels storing their nuts just incase.

Well actually I think he's wrong.

I reckon the Oaks are getting intelligent, they know when worms are thin on the ground so to speak, when they are not airating the soil enough, when the oaks drop their leaves the mush is very dense and sludgy with very little air for the rhizomes. So what it does is drop twigs as well which seperates the leave matter allowing air in for a better and more vigorous rhizome layer.

In a thousand years time trees will develope brains and defense stratergies against scottish tree cutters

i would love to get paid to tickle trees all day and not worry about the cost of diesel, insurance, traffic jams while lads are on overtime, answering calls to customers, meetings with bank managers and accountants, chasing money, breakdowns. if i wanted to change job i probably could, but i have too many bills to pay and wee guys and a wife to look after, but i aim to head in your direction of work and thought dave gradually because i dont want to climb trees for ever, once i set up my new yard then i can tinker about with milling and the such, but unless they can make wooden structures for me to play in and cut lumps off in the rain then i will have to stick to what i know for just now..:001_smile:
