Rates for Self Employed Handcutters

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm a self employed hand cutter based in Aberdeenshire.

Fully insured and ticketed with all my own gear!(CS-30,CS-31,CS-32,CS-34/35)

I'm fairly new to it but I have about two years full experience.

Most of work is cutting edge trees and oversize.Although a fair lot of hardwoods and the occasional steep bank to fell.

What should I be charging per hour and per day?

I'd say minimum £120/day. Assuming you've got FISA refresher status and First Aid tickets too. And that you're working on a self-employed basis, putting in full shifts and capable of turning up and getting the job done.

You might find that what you should be charging and what you can charge are two different things.

Matty

Can't tell you what to charge. But £100 is what our apprentice is paid.

Unlike other jobs a day rate may vary depending on the type of work i.e windfelled. Also as you become more proficient you will be happy indeed wish to be paid on a piece rate.

To many variables to give a once size fits all answer.

Good luck,

James.

I don't see what there is to think about. If the best you can get is £100/day S/E, running your own gear you might aswell go and get a job on the books somewhere.

Swinny would keep you in work mind.
