homemade log splitter advice needed

It can certainly split bigger rings in the horizontal position, in fact i would say its a much nicer working height that way, but for large diameter rings, you cant beat them in the flat position, just turning them slightly every time the splitting wedges comes down. its much less work this way as you haven't got to pick up half a lump of wood every time it splits.

Would it be possible to run a hydraulic ram off something like a JCB beaver power pack? I currently have an electric 240v kango hammer which is fine for small jobs but a more powerful hydraulic one would be better for bigger stuff. If there was some way of using it to power a log splitter that would save me a lot of money and hassle.

what type of flow do you have on the jcb as they range from 20-30 this is the speed at which the ram end is sent into wood, its possible to use a power pack if designed correctly but it might be the fastest

I use my splitter on a jcb powerpack and it's plenty fast enough 16 ton vertical splitter.

That's just dead money! If you're a tree man you need your own splitter!

That's the conclusion I came to & bought this -

 

Designers and manufacturers of log splitters, log holders, wheelbarrow, water barrow.

 

Suits my needs but I would have gone for a tow along if I had more storage space
