We managed to catch one guy literally red handed. The poison had stained his hands red. I caught him pouring poison into a funnel in the holes. There was some media around it but not enough. I think now we intend to do some heavy media coverage and there's a heap of these signs to go up. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Ring barking, topping of street trees, removal of street trees and entire embankments of trees in some places. We have been loathe to make a big deal about it so far but things are changing.

Yes, got an $8k fine. He was 83 and had to pay it back at $10 a week. Sold up and moved out of the area after drilling and poisoning nearly every tree on the reserve. We got him for one but he had done around ten. All mature trees too.

Suppose at the end of the day its about community involvement. If the community doesn't value its environment and assume castodianship of it, there's nothing you can do, except go Big Brother and put cameras everywhere, which nobody wants and doesn't work either.
