had our old faithful 880 out to drop some pops today filled it with fuel as we always run it out as it doesn't see that much use fired it up no problem it will sit and run at high idle as soon as you let the throttle off it dies out I am thinking at this point choked jet in carb so gets back to the workshop strips off carb give it all a clean off and strip it and pop it in the ultrasonic for 1/2 hr gave it all a blow off and rebuilt it put it on and its still the same on this carb there is anti tamper screws so there is little adjustment in it for fault finding so with the anti tamper locks on it where should the settings be or do I remove them also what should the idle and max revs be or do I just fire a new carb on it any advice appreciated guys cheers

it can't be that its cutting out when the revs fall

so, as soon as you let go of the throttle trigger the revs die and it cuts out before it goes into idle, or just as it goes into idle if that makes sense?

When my 660 had that problem i checked the fuel filters, the carb same as what you have done, but it was something much simpler in the clutch. but mine was fine when revving but as soon as it changed to idle it would cut out so it might not be the same problem.

Will the saw rev out? If it does and it just wont idle then I would suspect some sort of binding in the clutch area or a busted clutch spring.

I would try to keep the revs up at fast idle and then drop them down gradually and see if the chain will stop at a slightly fast idle.

880 do get issues with oilers which can cause issues. Worth pulling the drum off and cleaning/get some oil around the bearing etc and see what gives.

It may just need a carb tweak, you could have developed an air leak or just needs a bit of sorting in the clutch area.
