Im looking at buying an old low cost tractor for running the processor and a splitter . A mechanic friend of mine said stick to Massey or Ford as the back ends are fairly bullet proof on your average older one .

I think its good advice , trouble is ive looked at a few and theyre either complete wrecks or restored and guys are putting big prices on them . Anything genuine in between is really scarce .

Ive seen an international 475 locally , looks ok , sounds good . Anyone know anything about them , will i be able to drive the splitter directly off its hydraulics ??

Nashers had good strong engines, could be a perkins and they had good strong hydraulic flow, better than a massey of the same age they don't hold there money as well as massey or ford etc, not sure why .

My dream toy is a nasher 1455xl. Mmmmm

When I inquired of a vintage tractor friend about getting a Massey for ploughing he said: Forget it. Too much money. Get yourself an International as they're reasonably priced and good kit.

Cracking little tractor and if working as they should will have significantly better hydraulics than a Massey from the same era.

475 was quite sought after as it did indeed have the same Perkins engine as the 165 Massey, but I've had both smaller and larger versions with the International engine and they were grand.

Probably the only thing to worry about is to make sure that the engine is sound with good oil pressure as although the Perkins engine is incredibly durable they will wear out eventually and they're a fair bit more expensive to overhaul than the IH engine.

But otherwise, one of the best older type tractors you'll buy at any price!
