Crankshaft Cups

Although not 100% chainsaw related they are very similar so i'm hoping someone on here can help.

 

Recently rebuilt a spares and repairs K760 disk cutter and have forgotten to install the the two ''cups'' that go either side of the counter balance on the crankshaft.

 

Basically what i'm asking is are these cups that important that I need to strip down the whole engine again or could i get away with leaving them out??

They are stuffers and help fill the void in the crankcase thus giving greater velocity in the transfers and thus helping scavenging and the loading of the combustion chamber with fuel/oil vapour.

 

You may lose some performance but it will run with no adverse consequences!

Thanks for the advise guys its much appreciated.

 

Think ill just run it for a few jobs worse case scenario ill pull it apart again.

 

I was just a little concerned that the crank might move as there is slightly more space in there now since they are not in there.

The crank should be held in place by it being tight on the crank bearings inner races. There should be a similar gap between the crank lobes and the side wall of the inner crankcase and the crankshaft will not float from side to side, it will be held solidly in place!
