hi, got a ms660 and i dont know what the heavy duty air filter looks like as my current filter appears to let a little saw dust thro.Current filter consists of a oval shaped plastic filter with a flatish type filter behind it.Is this set up standard or hduty? If its not hduty does any body know the Stihl part no.The saw is less than six month old and i would like to keep it a while... hence not wanting saw dust in the engine! [ god knows why Stihl havent adressed this matter].

I thought the HD one had a wire mesh type outside to it, instead of the nylony tentlike fabric?

I'll check mine tomorrow, but if your milling its worth upgrading to HD, but for normal use don't worry, but if your buyign a new one anyway then get the HD.

I only really know mine. It got a hole in the filter (outside skin) and when I went for a replacement they said do want HD? I got it and it was totally different to the old one.

A bit of dust never hurt a stihl though! clean mine out every 6 months weather they need it or not!!

The standard filter is part code: 0000 120 1653

The HD filter is: 0000 120 1654

And includes a wrap around "sock" that must be used with the HD filter...

These are codes from the Stihl MS660 parts listing...

The 660 doesn't have the blue brillo insert like the 460 for some reason...

Edit: Make sure your not tightening the cover down too hard, hand tight plus a quick turn should be enough...

I have a brand new HD filter with that part number on the bag in front of me, and it does include a blue brillo.
