Value of a piece of Oak

Had a strange request from someone I know. They want a piece of Oak to use as some kind of natural looking feature table in their living room... They've seen similar used as display stands in outdoor clothing type shops and then in an interior design magazine. They are literally just going to stand it on it's end. What ever floats your boat I guess.

So I've got a bit that would suit them just fine. Only thing is I'm not sure how much to sell it for? It's approx. 350mm diameter and 700mm long and really heavy.

Attached a pic of the Oak in question. Any ideas to what I should be looking to sell it at?

I'd price it at £15 if they were collecting it.

There are some odd requests now and again. I was asked for 15 logs 6" long and 3-4" thick. I dug through my log pile, found a couple of lengths of conifer that we're straight and cut them all the same size. All while the customer watched. Did all those for £15!

I would say about the same as firewood TBH, whatever that would be. £20-30 maybe with delivery.

Suppose it depends on whether they are mates or customers.

Can't tell from the pic but it looks pretty green, do they know it will open up ?

May cause an issue with their flooring too if it's got plenty of moisture in it.

They could use those plant pot feet to stand it off the floor.

In fact if you supplied it with some nice ones you could charge a little bit more.

I think if you had a well seasoned log you could rightly charge a lot more but that would need several years to season.

Be careful as the oak is likely to stain what ever it stands on

Yeah its green, it was a branch and I only cut it off about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I've told them it's green and that it doesn't want to be going directly on a carpet. They are quite happy with all that so at least I have given the warning.
