Re: If you go down to the woods today.........

Took a stroll in to the Fordham wood SSSI today, which is a wet valley bottom woodland.

Great site, its like venturing into a land that time forgot.

Mainly alder, willow & ash

a good nettle rashing bimble indeed

Will be fascinating to see what fungal delights unfurl over the next few months, particularly being such a damp site

David, the site is Oxleas woodland. The skateboard was already there. It's about 4 miles from my house.

I know of it but I don't think I've ever visited.

It's a SSSI but not sure what the designation is for apart from it being ancient woodland. Any ideas ?

Is Haarkon at home in the woods or is he more of a snow child

Re: If you go down to the woods today.........

Haakon loves the woods. Loads Places to run and scramble about. He had a few woodland tasks from school. So whenever they do woodland stuff at school we pop up the woods and he educates me... Haha.

As for the sssi status, I am not sure. It is in Greenwich borough so there might be something on their website.

I don't think either the woodland trust or Greenwich have anything specific about Oxleas sssi designation

If you haven't already, have a look at the WT's Nature detectives web site & club, it's a fine resource and packed with great seasonal ideas for kids to get involved in and around woodlands

Good website that, David. I'm going to use it to try to get Lisa's nephew more interested in outdoorsy stuff.
