Hydraulic issue JD 1026r

Hello,

I changed the hydro oil after 450hours replacing the filter and cleaning the suction screen which has a long thin magnet inside which traps metal particles. This is easy to clean with petrol and an airline.

Now at 660hours we lost some power to the front loader. It would not drop.

The power steering also became stiff but only intermittently.

I handed it over to the J.D dealer as we had alot on.

They changed the 'manifold' for the front loader which for 2 hours worked.

Then the same problems returned.

Lucky for me a limited number of manifolds of this model have had issues so this went under warranty.

Now the dealer has drained the oil and changed the filter and upon removing the suction screen found it to be split.

Now the mechanic then told me that it was I who must have broken it during the previous service and that 2 of the 3 magnets where missing.

Now, I insisted that no way was the suction screen forced of damaged by myhand and that therewas only one magnet not 3 present.

As luck would have it, I actually took images on my phone of the parts and was able to prove the presence of a single magnet.

Still the mystery of the split suction screen remained a mystery and I was questioning my competance even to make a cup of tea un-aided when I stumbled upon this article:

The Truth About Hydraulic Suction Strainers | Hydraulics At Work

And several more which mention that suction screens do fail and this causes additional problems of their own when metal from these fine micron sized screens somehow gets further up into the system.

One thing I am puzzled about is just how could anything pass the actual hydro oil filter itself and end up lodged in the loader manifold?

Hello,

One thing I am puzzled about is just how could anything pass the actual hydro oil filter itself and end up lodged in the loader manifold?

in many systems the hyd oil is filtered on return,so that wont remove bits of o ring from the pump for example, interesting article on suction strainers, but who would propose you let combined gearbox and hydraulic oil into a pump without a filter

one thing I would emphasize is to stick to your guns if the dealer or manufacturer is pointing fingers at you. The easiest getout they have is to put it down to something the customer has done, even if that is almost totally implausible.

I found an 11/16 in ball bearing rattling around in a tractor gearbox, the manufacturers denied that it was anything to do with them as none were called up anywhere on that tractor, no one could have placed it there except me or someone on the production line, all I got was a muted apology after I offered to have the metallurgists look at it.

Update...

4 times the tractor has been back to the dealer.

Each time it is in for 'far too long'... several weeks once and they didn't manage to fix it either!

When we went back today to collect it (fixed they said) we where told that another JD1026 had arrived in the shop with much the same faults and that JD have admitted to supplying a faulty manifold to replace a faulty manifold.

The question of pollutant in the system will be answered when we test samples from the tractor and from the front loader which has been detached and must be purged of it's oil.

I have been told that the tractor will be back in operation next week...

If it is not then we are really in the mire as I have 2 weeks of work lined up for it.
