Sounds about right. Although a 2.5 tonne truck means 2.5 all up weight. A 3.5 truck should on average give something in the order of a capacity of 1800kgs of load and still allow a chipper of under 750kgs to be dragged once the drag test has been passed.

There is a wire crossed or Typo there Pete, If the standard Cat B car test was passed after 1/1/97 the driver can legally drive a vehicle grossing 3500kg and a chipper upto but not hevier than 750kg Without the Drag test. The Drag test B+E entitles the driver to drive a vehicle grossing upto 3500kg with a trailer upto 3500kg.

Yeah I mean 3.5 tonne truck by the way of what you can carry upto, and unladen they normally have something like 800-1200kg to spare to get upto 3.5 tonne limit, so sounds like I could fill up say a transit upto the existing sides which are like 50cm tall, but I can't fill it right up if I've got ply cut-outs running up the sides, cos it would push it over the limit...

Remember to take people in the cab into account. 3 good sized people in most 3 seat vans (ldv/transit) will put the front axle overweight. Then there are tools and ropes etc. May not seem much on their own but added all together can be alot more than you think.
