STIHL SEARCHES FOR FUTURE TIMBERSPORTS® CHAMPIONS

Come test your skills with an axe and chainsaw: 22 + 23 March 2014

If you fancy testing your skills with an axe and chain saw, and want to get involved in major league lumberjack sport, why not try your hand at STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®!

STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® is considered the major worldwide league of lumberjack sports, attracting highly-skilled athletes to compete with axes and saws. Now STIHL GB wants more people to try their hand at the sport, and invites newcomers to join them at its first-timer ‘taster’ sessions in March this year.

The newcomers’ ‘taster’ days are running on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd March 2014 at Harper Adams University, near Newport in Shropshire. Potential TIMBERSPORTS® athletes are invited to attend one of the taster days when they will initially be tested to assess their competency to pursue TIMBERSPORTS® before receiving expert training in specific disciplines. STIHL is keen to encourage beginners into the sport so no experience is needed, but basic chain saw certification is a requirement.

Expert STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® trainers will attend both days and evaluate participants, with the best of the pack who want to progress, invited to ongoing training including a second development camp later this year.

An Official Trainer for STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® and current GB Team Captain, Spike Milton says: “I’m really keen to bring more athletes into our great sport and encourage anyone interested to come and try out. We found some seriously strong future athletes at last year’s Newcomers’ weekend and they are progressing well at ongoing camps. I hope we’ll spot some equally exciting new talent at this year’s Newcomers’ camp so, if you think you’re up to it, come on and have a go!”

Anyone wanting to attend a Newcomers’ day must complete an application form available from GB Timbersports Newcomers Training Camp application Survey or via STIHL’s website ( Timbersports | STIHL | Stihl, Viking, chain saws, brushcutters, hedge trimmers, clearing saws, high-pressure cleaners, lawn mowers, trimmers ). For any questions or queries contact Vicky Tween (Tel: 01276 417612 / e-mail: [email protected]). Closing date for applications is Friday 7 March 2014. Places on the Open Days are limited and no entries or spectators will be permitted on the day.
