Hi, just a quick question, I use a clearing saw for most of my work, so what is the best safety boot to go for, are chainsaw boot the best option, thanks

Jeez, you are a rare beast. Never could understand why they are so unpopular in this country. Worked with people doing thinnings and scrub in the past. I finish the day feeling pretty good, they finished moaning about their sore backs (and I'd done 50% more clearance than them), but still they insist that a chainsaw is a better tool for the job.

Machismo?

As for boots, I mostly wear chainsaw boots, I find them comfy (or maybe I just think they look better in the pub after work.

If I wasn't climbing I'd probably go for wellies. Slip on an off no wet feet in winter last longer than leather boots.

About as much protection as a pair of flip flops tho if the blade comes a drift!

I do between 60 /80 hectares a year with clearing saw, I have tried husqvarna chainsaw wellies but feet do get sore after a while, at the moment I have got walking boots, but no protection if anything goes wrong , plus I work in the middle of nowhere sometimes so a bit worrying.

I wear my chainsaw boots (Haix Alpins) when using the clearing saw although they are a class 3 boot I suspect they would only offer very limited protection with the clearing saw as it is not what they are designed to protect against then again I have never seen a pair of boots designed for use with a clearing saw.

A quick release harness is the most important bit of safety kit when using one in my opinion.

I was given a pair of Tomcat boots and they are very strong boots, not very flexible though but they will bed in.
