My first turning

Not great as I left a lot of tooling marks. Also struggled to get a good finish on the base, but the missus was giving me earache lol so I rubbed it down and oiled it with boiled linseed as I had it to hand.

When she seen the finished item she was quite impressed so hopefully she'll stop thinking I'm just pissing about in the shed now she's seen the possibility for 'pretty things' haha

It's beech and without measuring I'd say 6" diameter. It might well split in half in the next few weeks:biggrin:

There was a bit of a fissure in the blank that I was trying to get out. After initially taking the entire bowl down equally I decided to take it down at the base then flare it back out at the top so I didn't have to cut as much away. This is u oiled still here

that's nice for a first attempt mick, why don't you pop back round for the day and i can give you some pointers or a lesson?

Might do that Steve. I've got a couple of weeks on Salisbury plain first though.

There's some tearing on the outside I don't know if it's showing up much on the pic. Maybe should of had a sharpen then gave it another couple of passes. Might have tidied up a little. Just want to stick another blank on there now and have another bash haha
