  2. Hi, long time lurker first time post. I have just completed my 39 with Roland after doing my 31 with him too and felt it necessary to say a big thank you. First to the Coppelridge, the rooms are big, clean and modern, the food is top notch and all the staff friendly and helpful. Next Martin who trained us, he is very laid back and puts you at your ease straight away but is an brilliant teacher who gets the message across and is more than happy to take extra time when its required. Terry our assessor is from the same mould, puts you at your ease and gets the best out of you. The venue is amazing with masses of quality trees of varied varieties to learn on. I was also lucky both times with top boys on the courses with me. I choose Roland first time round mainly due to his very competitive prices I won't go anywhere else now no matter what as he delivers on all counts. cheers all

  9. Hi, Just passed my aerial rescue and basic climbing with Roland Hemming training. If you need training head down to North Dorset and get yourself ticketed up. If the prices do not persuade you then the experience these guys have to pass on is priceless. The accommodation is sweet too, if you have to stop down there like I did the coppleridge inn is excellent - cooked breakfast everyday! Cheers martin for the fantastic week, even though we got soaked a few days! Check them out - rolandheming.co.uk Andy

  11. Hi Everyone, I’m looking for some help in changing my career and hopefully becoming an avid member of this forum. I’m currently 24 and based in the west midlands, I’m looking to become a qualified Arborist with the intention of moving to New Zealand within the next 2 years. I have no previous experience in the industry. I’d like to hear your guys advice on the below if possible? • Do UK tickets mean anything in NZ? I have asked this question to potential employers abroad • Is it worthwhile me training in the UK or should I just start fresh in NZ? • I was thinking of doing the Proclimber course but due to the financial commitment I need to be sure of its benefit to me now and for when I move • Do you feel that the course would be a good method for me to enter the trade • What could I do within the UK to increase my employability in the industry in NZ and for my time working here in the UK? This is not just a whim for me, I’m really dedicated on changing my career to something that I love and I’m willing to invest and do what it takes. I’m just looking for some input from people in the know. Any help is really appreciated, Luke
  12. Hi All, I am a big believer in doing/getting things from recommendations; whether it is a bit of kit or a training course. So I am keen to pass on my experiences for others. I am new to the industry and I have just completed my CS30 & CS31 with Roland Heming training. It was a fantastic course, with a fantastic instructor (Martin). It made a real difference being trained by someone who still does the job and was able to pass on 'top tips' and expertise. The course was laid back and informative and at the end I felt confident enough to go and fell a whole forest! Speaking of which the course is held in a very nice woodland, with plenty to crosscut and fell! I was assessed by Roland - couldn't be a nicer guy! I felt completely at ease and able to complete the required questions and demonstration without that (eyes burning into the back of your head feeling) I have already booked to return to complete my climbing course and I am currently eyeing up my third. Also if like me, you want to make your cash go as far as possible with kit and training etc, Roland Heming offers great value for money, even if you stay in the accommodation, it can work out cheaper than others! Great course, fantastic instruction, relaxed environment, highly recommended! Hope the above helps anyone looking to get more tickets or like me start out!
  13. Tree safety management is a matter of limiting the risk of harm from tree failure while maintaining the benefits conferred by trees. The Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) system moves the management of tree safety away from labelling trees as either ‘safe’ or ‘unsafe’ and thereby away from requiring definitive judgements from either tree assessors or tree managers. Instead, QTRA quantifies the risk of significant harm from tree failure in a way that enables tree managers to balance safety with tree values and operate to predetermined limits of tolerable or acceptable risk. We have received some excellent feedback from workshops carried out throughout the UK as well as Australia and New Zealand over the course of the year. Visit Training to use QTRA for booking and further information on QTRA and Visual Tree Assessment workshops.
  14. Hello, I am currently wishing to undergo a career change, I hope to become a tree surgeon but realize to do this I will have to start with the basics and undergo the training I need. Would you or do you know anyone that would be interested in taking on a trainee / apprentice? would there be a basic minimum i would need to do this ? such as the courses i have listed below. I am currently saving to complete: Basic Crosscutting and maintenance Small tree felling Tree Climbing & Aerial Rescue Use of a chainsaw from a rope I will hopefully be completing these over the next 4 months. if you know of any grants or funding that i could access i would be very grateful. Or if you want someone to update your website / social marketing in exchange for course payment, that could also be an option. I am looking for experience, either working for a company or an individual that would be willing to train me / share there experience with me and help me achieve my long term goal. I am currently in full time employment and am looking at the options available to me to re-train either at college / with a tree surgeon or company in the south (I live in Bournemouth). I am very determined and have a variety of skills, as you can see in my attached CV. However i would like to reiterate that its experience I am after, a foot in the door and a chance to work my way up the ladder, so to speak. If I have to continue my current employment to pay for the courses required and gain experience on the weekend, I am more than willing to do this. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to your reply. P.S the free chocolate is for the person who is willing to take me on and train me up Jamie Macdonald CV.doc
  15. Probably explored countless times in the past however what are the opinions on the credibility of Lantra versus the basic NPTC's i.e. 30/31, 38/39 etc. The reason I ask is that the equivalent Lantra course are a whole lot cheaper at the training providers near me however I have been told to get NPTC's as they are considered more credible than Lantra. Is it worth doing Lantra over NPTC given the opportunity or vice versa?
  16. im interested in finding out more about doing the correct MO units for forest harvesters and forwarders, haven't had much luck around the south east (sussex/Kent) and wondered if anyone knew about it ? or is the best way to learn by getting on the machine first ?
