  1. Well I'm glad to hear its not just me being a wuss!! the main puncture on my hand has finally gone down and is ok now but it was a real bas%$£d for a few days there.... As someone above mentioned the worst spot was just on my wrist, tight skin, bone and a vein just under that seemed to get a stabbing.... Got a few rounds to see how it burnt....to add to its lack of appeal it is also a bas$£"d to split, first few hits with my axe just bounced off! I had to give it full beans and the coin was only 5" thick....not many conifers can resist axe hits like that....
  2. Hi all, felled a monkey puzzle the other day. First time dealing with them....it may be the last! Anyway I was cutting it up and got spiked from one of the 'needles' at the base of my thumb. It was ok for a few hours but started aching a few hours later. Woke up the next morning and the area had swollen and movement of the thumb was pretty sore. Now 4 days later and the swelling is slowly going down but it is still very tender to touch. Has anybody else had any adverse reactions to a monkey puzzle spike!?
  3. Thanks for the replies fellas, that was what I was thinking. I'll get on the phone and see what comes up. Many thanks.
  4. Hi all, I have recently got my NPTC tickets for cross cutting/maintenace, chipper, first aid +F, accessing trees/aerial rescue and cutting from rope and harness. I'm wondering what the best way to proceed into work is and what are the different options? I would ultimately like to start a small business with a friend of mine who is doing the same qualifications as me in the near future. Maybe hire in an extra guy when needed. However this is some time off. So in the meantime I presume another option would be to contact local arborists and see what work they have going and hire myself out freelance. What would the going rate for somebody in my position be? I also know of a job going at Evove doing powerline work. Anybody have any experience of that work?
  5. Hi all, I recently qualified with H&W Training, Dumfries. I've got crosscut and maintenance, chipper, first aid +F, accessing tree with rope and harness / rescue and chainsaw from a rope and harness tickets. Willing to travel and a good worker. I'd be happy travelling to most areas of the country as long as there is a weeks work. Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks Mike
  6. I'd be very interested in hearing more. I've sent you a PM with my details.
