  1. Had a belter from earlier this week. Climber was at the top of a huge Beech and was lowering some pole pruners off his climbing line. Somehow he managed to tie the end of his line just above his stopper knot onto the phone cable. Which meant he couldn’t come down to untangle it and we couldn’t reach it to untie it. Quite the predicament 🤣 That was on Wednesday. By all accounts he’s still up there.
  2. Most of the arb coats don’t rate their waterproofness on the standard scale. But if you’re buying some of the mainstream brands steer clear of anything less than 10,000mm waterproof rating. You will be amazed how many of the £400+ NorthFace/Berghaus type jackets say waterproof but are rated 3,000mm which is basically someone sneezing near you. I’ve got an Arbortec Breathflex Smock. Lasted about 8 months in Manchester rain before it started losing its waterproof-ness. That being said it’s very durable and hard wearing and can withstand a lot of abuse. I now have a Dare2Be jacket from GoOutdoors. Rated 20,000mm and was £50. More like a cycling jacket so very lightweight and breathable. I wear this when climbing if it’s pissing down and save the Arbotec for days when I’m on the deck and it’s more likely to get abuse from brash etc.
  3. The very same.
  4. Anyone familiar with Guilty Of Treeson Youtube Channel and his work will have seen Jed in some of his videos. Seemed like a great bloke and can honestly say despite never meeting him that I learnt a lot from his content. His felling video is a great watch and a real legacy to leave behind now he’s gone. Heartbreaking and a stark reminder of how dangerous the job can be. Doesn’t matter how experienced you are, mistakes can happen in an instant. There’s a go fund me to raise money for his family which I’ve put below. https://gofund.me/b3cb38be Stay safe out there guys.
  5. TBF most customers will clear the garden if they know you’re coming. That or give it the “oh I was going to clear up but you’re here early!” spiel when they see you with a shovel in hand. The ones that don’t clear up are just arseholes. But I just make sure I leave one of my own on the lawn before I leave. as for the rope It will need a good soak that’s for sure. But I flicked the turd off with a stick, got myself down and left the rope and the anchor in the tree. Only one thing worse than dealing with a shitty rope and that’s dealing with a shitty rope in the dark. Will cross that bridge tomorrow 😂
  6. Climbing a Lebanese Cedar today. Get to the top, get a cambium saver set up and then come back down for lunch. I’ve just bought a MultiSaver from Teufelberger. So I take that back up the tree with me to install it. Fiddle about with it for abit, and end up repositioning it a couple times. Then start getting some branches on the deck. Every so often I get a whiff of dogshit. The garden was a minefield but we had cleared it all up in the morning so my first thought is maybe we’ve missed abit and I’ve got some on my boots. Quick look and can’t see anything so I carry on working. 15 mins later get another whiff. Can’t for the life of me figure out where it’s coming from. Until it’s time to get out the tree and I get back to my anchor. Somehow, some way, a turd has hitched a ride up my climbing line and settled on one of the rings on the cambium saver. It’s then been glossing a very fine coat of dog shit on my rope ever since. Not enough to smear or squash itself. But enough to hit my nostrils every 15mins. Answers on a postcard please.
