  1. Fair cut and a beast of a saw by the looks of it😳
  2. I have kevlar jeans, steel capped boots, gloves, decent eye and ear protectors.
  3. 🤣 I thought it was when you did a top cut, then made the final cut from underneath the log, to stop it bucking.....
  4. The saw on the multi tool is pretty poor quality (the chains are £5) and with the angle/reach its pretty uncomfortable to use. For high up 3m branches its pretty handy. The woods where we take the dogs have quite a few fallen trees, and some that may soon fall😁 Just googled bucking.......its not what i thought it was🤣
  5. Thank you for the info. With the multi tool i let it run dry on tickover once finished and use a 25/1 mix. Just read up on aspen, my multi tool is 25/1, leaf blower is 40/1 or is it mainly the chainsaw that you would advise on for aspen? I usually add a fuel preserver to super unleaded for the tools (lawn mower, multi tool, blower) Air filter and carb-check. Chain file-check (have seen some tools to help with this) I use the sthil oil for blower and multi tool.
  6. Thats what puzzles me, I get the whole get what you pay for etc, my home av kit is mega money, but I use it 7 days a week, and have been on a long upgrade path over 15years. I know this is a pro forum and I bet you guys have mega money pro saws, (which would be a waste for my limited use) But some of the reviews are ok for the 99quid saws, and some are utter garbage. I guess im worried they may be unsafe? Crap? (like a chainsaw is a safe tool, lol) PS - I really appreciate the time you guys are spending in replying by the way!
  7. Probably use it maybe every few months just to chop a few logs, then axe split them.
  8. Hi Stere i have a lot of bosch 18v pro kit, and about 10 batteries to go with it, which is great as most times im in places with power, if i need to charge a battery. The batteries look to be quite expensive for the chainsaws mentioned, and thats going to push me well over £200 as I would need a few batteries if in the wood, whereas 2 stroke will be easier in that situation I think.
  9. That's partly true, the thing is in 5 or 10 years you will still get spares for a MS171 or 135 so I would say you are better off with either Stihl or Husqvarna than the other Chinese saws. Ah ok, thats a good point on spares. My chinese 52cc multi tool has been ok for the past 6 years, but its not exactly doing hard work, strimming grass and trimming hedges, but I think they have generic parts. I tend to look after kit (mountfield lawnmower is 16 years old, and just been replaced as the cutter deck snapped eventually due to rust!) So I think its best to avoid the very cheap saws £100 with 2 bars and chains etc. so its down to the sthil ms171 14" or the husky 135 14"
  10. Ahh ok, so more of a cheap line for the home user (me) but carrying the badge of the respected names?
  11. Thanks guys, so a 12" Stihl MS171 should do? Its main use will be cutting up fallen trees in the woods (for chiminea wood) and pruning lelandai, and other branches off trees. In no way would i be doing pro work.
  12. Thank you for the replies guys. I always think of Stihl as being "proper kit", remembering the old days with my uncle that had stihl cut off saws and chainsaws. Like they lasted most of my childhood life. Would you go for the longer 14" bar? Im not sure on the whole bar length thing, and assumed it was to reduce kickback if cutting thicker logs?
  13. Hello and good morning. I stumbled across this forum when trying to gather info on what would be a good choice for a 1st chainsaw for home use. Its just for chopping up fire wood and small tree removal 6-8" trunk. I have listed the ones on my shortlist, but I would really appreciate the input of the professionals on this group. Budget is £200 Thank you for your help and advice in advance. Steve Husqvarna 120 II 38.2cc Petrol Chain Saw 35cm (toolstoday.co.uk) BU-KO 62cc Petrol Chainsaw 3.4HP 20" Bar & 2 x Chains + 16" Bar & 2x Chains COVER BAG & FULL SAFETY GEAR … : Amazon.co.uk: Garden & Outdoors Mountfield MC3720 40cm 37.2cc Petrol Chainsaw | Chainsaws | Screwfix.com P1PE P6220C 2-Stroke Petrol Chainsaw Easy Start 20-inch Hyundai Powered 62cc Engine : Amazon.co.uk: Garden & Outdoors I would just like something that starts, cuts well and doesnt melt. Im guessing a lot of the amazon ones are Chinese built poor quality?
