  1. You honestly get used to burials x it’s being in the room where they cremate that haunts me. The ovens have windows and I made the mistake of looking as I past them once 😬😬😬😬😬 did you know when your brain burns the fire is blue !!!! Now you see why I want to be a tree surgeon lol πŸ˜‚
  2. Gosh I talk to the people in the graves I’m working around and it makes you feel a better person if you show respect. I just hope no ghost follows me home 😬 I don’t understand why he would dig a grave with a spade πŸ€” it would take hours and how on earth does he get back out 😁 he must be superhuman !!! Sounds like he’s a good person though. There are some beautiful birds and animals in cemeteries and the red squirrels are in abundance. I remember I was at a burial under a tree once and two squirrels we’re running around the bark of a tree trying to catch each other. We all started giggling because it distracted the vicar πŸ™‚ really sweet, we currently have 20 trees in Northwood Cemetery that have been marked for felling or taking down because of disease.
  3. Thanks Rough πŸ™‚ I am working all the overtime I can get so I can buy everything I may need. It’s quite interesting watching all the videos on chainsaw demonstrations, some of them make wood look like butter πŸ€ͺ I think all my wages will end up being spent in Arb lol πŸ˜‚
  4. Awwww I’m hinting like mad about being desperate for good PPE Mr Blue but he thinks I’m crazy because I earn good wages. Plus he’s Scottish and tighter than two coats of paint πŸ˜‚ so I will get a box of chocolates again I guess ☹️
  5. It must be difficult Les finding extra small condoms lol πŸ˜‚
  6. Ah it’s a good job you told me about chipper ear protection because I never thought of that 😬 I would ask the people selling them which is best but I think recommendations from people who actually work in them is better. What do you wear Doug x
  7. I genuinely don’t mind what I’m dragging about because I’m starting from zero knowledge so I can learn from watching and listening to the team. I have decided I won’t take a penny in wages because I’m dead weight at the moment and I’m just grateful to be getting training πŸ™‚ I must try not to ask too many questions 😬 I’m too enthusiastic at the moment so hopefully a day trudging in mud and dragging heavy branches will curb that πŸ˜‚
  8. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me Will and I really do appreciate it πŸ™‚ I will hold back for a few weeks until I have spent a few days on site and have a look at the chainsaws being used and how they feel to hold. Until I can get my chainsaw ticket I won’t be allowed to use one but hopefully i can get that ticket as soon as they start in January. It’s nice to know your wife can use all the chainsaws and i would love to meet her in the future 😁 I have not seen any new posts from females since I joined Arbtalk.
  9. That’s a vital piece of equipment because sadly a lot of graves flood and it’s all we can do to drain them and hope they don’t fill up to quickly while the service is taking place. Coffins have started floating 😬 we cover the base of graves with leaves to try to disguise the rising water. Ours just broke so we have been using the bucket on the digger !!! No fun when it’s a re opener and there is a coffin already in. You can have three coffins in one grave. Sorry it’s a little grim πŸ‘ŽπŸ»
  10. Ratman has this happened to you πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  11. I assumed I would HAVE to own my own chainsaw straight away to be a groundie Dan 😬 was I wrong ? I know I need the PPE and wee bits but I thought you had to bring your own saw. I would rather holdback on that big purchase until I have made sure I’m up to the job so that would be good news if I could lend their stuff for a wee while. I have heard great reviews on Arbtalk about the Stihl chainsaws πŸ™‚ thanks again Dan πŸ‘πŸ»
  12. Thankyou Will that’s brilliant 😁 I had no idea we had anything like that on the Island so I will take a trip tomorrow πŸ‘πŸ» What chainsaw does your wife use ? Does she enjoy the job Will πŸ™‚
  13. Bloody spellcheck πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  14. Gosh sorry I meant Rough Hewn apologies xxxxx I get confused easily lol πŸ˜‚ please forgive me πŸ˜‡
  15. I am a lady πŸ˜‡ we do not DUMP lol πŸ˜‚ I expect I will be tricked as a learner but it would have to be good to get one over me lol πŸ–•πŸΌ
  16. One of my roles that was forced onto me was funeral services on behalf of the council ☹️ I mark where graves must be dug and I am personally responsible if it’s wrong 😬 I then return once they are dug to measure the hole the gravediggers have excavated and test the wooden platforms around the burial site because that’s what all four pole bearers stand on. Sometimes for a Laugh the grave diggers balance them badly so I fall in πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Bloody long drop if it’s a triple grave. I then wait for the coffin to arrive and have to stand graveside incase anyone injures themselves and want to claim from the council. I HATE this part of my job because it’s heartbreaking and I have had to attend hundreds of burials listening to about how lovely the person that died was and hold people up when they are crying. I want to hug them all and give them tea ☹️ It’s rewarding but can effect you deeply. Especially the young ones, suicide victims families and a few that were murdered. I’m a pisces so take on the pain around me. I am used to it now but the odd one still gets to me. I am definitely being cremated and would NOT want my children crying in a cold cemetery 😬
