  1. Hello, I'm looking for work as a groundsman around the Bournemouth/Christchurch area. Willing to go further afield if necessary. Happy to climb although most of my experience is on the ground. I have crosscut/maintenance/small fell, aerial rescue, saw from rope and harness, chipper tickets and CSCS. I'm 31, have transport, PPE, ground saw and fuel. Registered self-employed +1 year arb experience Ready for work at fairly short notice.
  2. All I would say is never rub another man's rhubarb
  3. So why these countries? I know pay is better in Scandinavia but living costs are eye-watering no? Does Canada have more trees, less traffic and more parking? (That is appealing though) Ideally yes exactly that... I live in my van full time and have space for me+kit. Would need to rent a yard to keep trailer. I'm thinking mainly small trees and hedges tbh and possibly hire a chipper for big jobs/trees.
  4. If you could start a one man band tree & hedge business anywhere in the UK, where would it be and why? If you had no ties, no debt, mortgage, rent, wife or kids, and have the tickets, kit and van + trailer but no chipper. Just generally, where is most profitable - here in the south west seems there's a tree firm round every corner. Thinking about it now, it might not be the kind of info you'd want to share!
  5. Yeah that all sounds good to me, especially as I live in my van. Plus I can take a shit in the woods instead of feeling guilty for destroying a customer's toilet! Perks eh...
  6. Ha haa I reckon I'm in there...so long forestry!
  7. Yeah seems like whichever manual trade you're in some part of the body has to pay - I also do landscaping on new build sites - one day I choose to sacrifice the knees, another day it's the back's turn...But need that sweet dollar! Might as well enjoy what I'm doing for it tho
  8. Yeah that's a good thought, cheers, I'm definitely gna give it a shot, besides it sounds like AHPP is havin loads of fun over there...
  9. Just your comment makes me want to hang myself mate. Anyway I tick the first 3 boxes there, but 30 days of sleet and working on slopes does sound pretty awful
  10. Do foresters / cutters work until retirement til mid-60s or is the work too physically demanding to last that long? If that's the case then what do you do once you're too knackered to fell at pace anymore? Is there much scope for going into woodland management, forest officer, or estate work for a more cushy lifestyle? For my part, I'm 31 been doing arb in a city for a year and enjoying it, but had a week of removing Sitka regen (weeding with chainsaws) on Highland hills in driving rain - not nice, but one day we felled small sitkas (40ft or so) and loved it. After snedding up I couldn't wait to get onto the next tree. Definitely my gut is telling me that felling in the forest is where I belong! Not sure on my longevity in this specific line of work though... But perhaps opportunities will come along. Advice appreciated!
