what sort of pulling weight are we talking about needing with winches? i'm thinking of 8ft lengths of softwood trunks for milling def nothing more than 2ft DBH, spruce, larch, pine. i've been using my pick up with shackle but getting deeper into the woods is starting to cause access problems. thinking trifor 1250 kg pulling would be sufficient on level ground?

i need to drag 6-8ft lengths of 18" conifers into position for milling in the wood. what rated blocks/pulleys would i need? ie what is the pulling force required? i aim to use my truck but need an anchored gin wheel/block/pulley for positioning. i don't think gin wheels will be up to it and will probably need a snatch block. 2 tonne ok?

first post. plan to retrain as an arborist in 5 yrs once present career comes to an end so starting to get some knowledge and experince now. i have a 25 m ash in my garden. about 15 years ago put a heavy duty chain around a nice thick branch 10m up for an anchor to top rope from. Now started tree climbing and revisited the said chain, half imbedded in the tree and so assuming need to take an angle grinder up to cut the chain. would the branch survive being ringed by a chain as the years go by? cheers
