  1. That's concerning for him. We have quite a bit of Ash and some Beech but also a lot of Hazel. Think the Cedar has a reprieve for now. Going to thin it and see how that changes the landscape Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  2. Well. Sadly they are almost definitely Cyprus. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  3. Yes. Bath/Bristol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  4. Wow! You guys are desperate! And I say that with all respect. I just never realised that WRC was so wanted. What about Lawson Cyprus? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  5. This is great guys. Thanks. We need to formally identify the trees as the current felling license says WRC but we thought they might be one of the cypress family (Lawson). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  6. Interesting Slack. Why the shortage? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  7. Good to know. What would be a good restocking level in theory! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  8. Hi Big J. Sadly they ain't even that big. Most are sulking around the 10-20 cm mark. In places there is less that 2ft between them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  9. Hi, We have almost 1 Hectare of Conifer, which we believe to be Western Red Cedar. Its very dense as has been unmanaged for 20 years. We are planning to progressively thin it out quite significantly leaving small groups (3 - 4) of the better specimens before replanting underneath with some native broadleaf seedlings. Currently Sycamore, Field Maple are being recommended by our local FCA but we also like the idea of Beech and Oak so I guess it will end up being a mix. So to my questions. How many seedlings should I be looking at per tenth of a hectare? Any recommendations for South West suppliers? Thanks in anticipation of your help. Regards Chris Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

    Tidal.

I don't disagree. I guess this is where we get into the realms of political will and this is led by the wishes of big industry and fed by voters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    Tidal.

So I asked the wife who works in a related field. She says "barrages are really problematic to wildlife and all the other solutions are technologically limited or untested. There are also limited tidal sites. As for wave the technology just does not exist" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    Tidal.

Take a look at the UKs Severn Tidal barrage if you are interested in the pros/cons. I think it comes down to cost in both initial and maintenance followed by issues relating to wildlife. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  13. I'm not planning to look at anything over 380mm. Mainly thinning beech/ash, coppicing hazel and clearing some conifer to make way for broadleaf. Anything over 380mm will be left for the amenity/conservation value it adds. However, the wood has not had anything done to it for about 20 years so everything is a bit dense and hang ups are likely. I'd probably get one big one in case I want it to haul the truck out. Thanks for the advice thou. It's given me a clearer idea. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  14. Good to know Agrimog. What lengths would you recommend? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  15. Great explanation, thanks. Very similar construction to a dynamic climbing rope. Given the prices at Clarks I go round from them. Thanks guys. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  16. Cheers Mark. Awesome call. 1/2 the price. Thanks. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  17. Hi, First post and recently qualified so please be patient. Could not see where in Equipment to put this so hopefully it's ok here. I'm in the process of getting a lug-all winch (4000) for dealing with potential hung up trees in some private woodland that I manage and am going to want some slings as well. I can get 'expensive' slings from a specialist arb seller e.g. Landmark Trading 5m 5Tonne for ~£35 or buy 'cheaper' slings from a more general lifting seller e.g. SafetyLiftingGear same for about ~£30. I know that they are very similar in price but the latter also do 3T Webbing Lifting Strops for ~£17. What is the advantage of these round slings and is there any reason not to get them from a general supplier. Also what sizes would people recommend. I would probably like to be able to use this with the truck winch which is rated at 4100kg. Thanking you in anticipation of your response. Chris Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
