  1. this really struck me recently as well, the more experienced climbers don't stress about as much, but they still get the work done in a shorter time. I've tried to stop stressing and working more on getting the technique right and efficient without trying to go fast recently, and I'd say I'm actually going faster with less stress, so I think it's good to slow it down a bit and think it all through.
  2. In stockholm you have two big companies, Trädmästarna and Jackson trädvård, both employ a lot of brittish arborists, so you can get away with not knowing a lot of swedish, and I think they are both interested in more people as they both have more work than they have time for according to my classmates who worked with them the last couple of months (work experience during education).
  3. I can't speak for finland really, but I can speak for the neighbour, Sweden. We have one school in the very very south end, and I think they've educated around 150 arborists in the last 10 years (before then we had nothing). I know there are a couple of arborist companies in and around stockholm, which is less than halfway up sweden, but I don't really know of any working much higher up than that. also, Finland doesn't have a lot of cities up north, with no cities there's rarely call for arborists in my experience.
  4. Hi I'm currently in a two year arborist program in Sweden, and as part of this program we have several "work place experience" periods where we go out and work with an arborist company to learn on the job so to speak. I was considering doing some of this in the UK (specifically Birmingham because my sister lives there) for maybe 3-4 weeks this summer, but I'm wondering if it's actually possible. I don't have any of the certs you use in the UK, but I will have a letter from my school detailing what I've been taught and what I can do, if I do come over, and have a letter that says I know how to climb, and I have done it in work situations before, will I be allowed to climb in a UK company? or will I be a groundie the entire time? If you are an arborist in Birmingham and you're interested in having a swedish guy over for a few weeks, please let me know. I think it would be very interesting to see a different arborist culture than the one here where everyone comes from the same school with the same teachers.
