  1. Straight back to the dealers, being an Echo it's still under warrenty
  2. It was situated right next to two Red Oaks so the leaves had got mixed in with them, and at this stage of decomposition it was difficult to tell them apart, but there did seem to be a slight difference in some
  3. I'm thinking Sorbus torminalis, what do other people think?
  4. Saw my first Swallow of the year on the 30th March in the Midlands. Has anyone spotted one earlier? Post your dates and location. Winner gets to spend the day with Bolam
  5. I did think about asking him to babysit, just for the first couple of days until I was sorted but I didn't want the newborn spitting and swearing before it's out of nappies
  6. I started my business when my son was about 18 months old. I carried him on my back for miles delivering leaflets trying to drum up business. I started doing 4 days a week having daddy day on the 5th, which I loved. I did most of my quoting on this day, and you'd be surprised how much chocolate and sweets one child can get! Work has picked up and for the last 12 months I've done 5 days a week but make sure I spend as much time as I can with him at the weekend. I've got number 2 child arriving at the end of April. How have other people coped with booking work in around the babies due date? If you could guarantee they will pop out on the exact day you could not book work in but it doesn't work like that! Also, how come a self employed woman can get statutory maternity pay but a self employed man can't get paternity pay... . Equal rights my a@#e 😤
  7. Just a reminder that as us tree surgeons will be rubbing our hands because of the extra work that the strong winds might bring us, the thieving scum out there will also be rubbing their hands using the storm to mask any noise they make trying to steal our hard earned kit. Be extra vigilant guys!
  8. Should be an easy question. For those that employ staff, who does your contract of employments and what is a rough price for having one drawn up? Thanks in advance
  9. Omnipresent, good word! this was my thought, I could sell the wood to a chap that will store it in his yard for 12 months that doesn't have any trees nearby, potentially letting the armillaria die off, or have people help themselves and take it straight to their house and store it next to their 150 year old beech tree, spreading the disease. hypothetically any way.
  10. Thanks for the replies. Glad I wasn't being a total numpty finding it hard to get a definitive answer. The trees were felled in a wood on the side of the road, so I'm sure that the wood vultures will be helping to spread the disease now then...
  11. I know amillaria is spread via the roots of trees and the rhizomorphs but can it also be spread via the movement of infected timber once the tree has been felled? Cheers in advance
  12. Had the Honda engine one since about April last year. As others have said it's a great machine, obviously not as quick as the 150 but eats through brash pretty quick. Just be careful when changing the blades to put them back in the correct order otherwise you can chip the edge of the blades
  13. Felled a sycamore today that had a large cavity at the base. Noticed a vole run out of the stem after it had been felled so had a dig around in the mud in cavity in the base and found hundreds of blackberry seeds, some red ribbon and a few acorns, one of which had started to germinate inside the sycamore. (just on the left of the picture) Nature never ceases to amaze me.
  14. Cheers guys, think I'll stick with what I'm good at (well not terrible at anyway!)
  15. Hi all. Been a serial arb stalker for a while now but thought I'd take the trouble to sign in and say hello and get some advice from you. I've been running my own arb business for about four years now, transit and chipper jobby. I've built up a good reputation and the work is coming in, steadily at the moment but in the summer it can be really quite busy. I've recently had the opportunity to become a subby doing powerline clearance. The pay is good and there is at least 4yrs work there, but I'd have to put myself and my employee through our ua tickets first. Now what does this kind of work involve? Will I still need my chipper to do it? Am I mad to throw away 4 years worth of building my business up and getting a good reputation in the domestic world? It would be nice to not have to go quoting on my 'days off',not worry if the work will dry up, not worry if the customer will actually stump up with the cash and not have to work in a garden full of dog turds! Any advice/knowledge in this area would be much appreciated. Cheers for now!
