  1. chainsaw carving set-up on a tight budget

    Hi bud, I'm always on a tight budget :-( but for years I've used a wee stihl 180 with a pole saw bar (and chain) - it's not as pointy as a proper carving bar but you can get a reasonable amount of detail with it. Have to say, just recently purchased a sugi r7 bar and chain, the difference is something else, but not cheap - bar, chain and sprocket were the guts of £130. Not sure if you can still get the pointy poĺe saw bar but for around £100 you should be able to get an ok ms170/180. One last thing - there's really not much to a wee saw engine, so a bit of pootering about on a fixer upper could be worth a try. (Plenty of helpful info on this here forum)
