  1. I put in an application for the Forestry and Arboriculture Training Fund last week and I was approved funding for a climbing and aerial rescue course, which I am pretty excited about. I didn't think I would get the funding as people have said the funding goes quite quick.
  2. Aldeburgh, Regardless I can get to anywhere in Suffolk
  3. Hi everyone, I'm looking to find some work as a groundsman in Suffolk, but everywhere I look companies require experience and tickets. I'm looking for anything even if it is just 1 day a week helping out for minimum wage. I don't have any tickets, But I did go to college and learn how to use chainsaws and maintain them, climbing with rope and harness and I felled trees and processed them. I've also used a chipper when I did volunteer work with the Suffolk Wildlife Trust as well as felling small trees with chainsaws and clearing saws. I do intend to get my tickets when I have enough money saved up. If anyone can refer me to someone I would be greatly appreciative Thanks
  4. Hi all, I finished a year at college studying Arboriculture & Forestry level 3 and I'd like to work as a groundie or perhaps help out with forestry in Suffolk. I can do 4 days a week as on the off day I will be working with the Suffolk Wildlife Trust who are funding my training for clearing saw, chainsaw maintenance and felling small trees. Thank you
  5. Hey, I've just finished my first week at Otley college studying the level 3 extended diploma in Arboriculture and Forestry. It's a 3 day a week course but I do know that the college others 10 week intensive courses, so if you decide going down that route you'll be good to go into the industry. Depending on how old you are the fees for the course will differ. I can't really say how the courses from other colleges stand because I'm very new to Arboriculture myself so hopefully someone will give you that information. If you don't drive then there are buses from Ipswich that will take you directly to the college.
  6. Hi, I'm starting college soon to become a Tree Surgeon at 23 years of age with no prior experience in the industry. Can anyone offer me any advice on the training and climbing? Perhaps things that you wished you had known when you started training in this business. I did an induction where we practiced different climbing knots, which at first I found hard to remember the processes but managed okay in the end. I also got to go up a tree for the first time, which is more difficult than it looks for me personally but I got the hand of it in the end and it was pretty fun. Maybe it is pre college nerves but I want to succeed at this course, but I have worries in my mind that I'm going to struggle with it for some reason. Thanks
