  1. Eight years later, here's the shop finally: ThomTheWoodTurner - Etsy UK WWW.ETSY.COM Shop Pole Lathe turned products by ThomTheWoodTurner located in Cockermouth, England. And a rough video showing the process :
  2. Cheers mate, you well? Got my climbing tickets sorted in December... send me an inbox?
  3. Tar mate, Holly, good eye. Found the Elder super easy to turn and generally nice to work with. It warps like crazy once its dried out though. Can't see it in the photos but the biggest bowl has quite a few holes and cracks in it. Smaller ones turned out okay.
  4. Not sure on species for this one. Rescued from the chipper
  5. Spalted beech from a dead tree. Blunted my tools every 5 minutes. Get a clean finish though. Nested it too.
  6. Different tools. Long steel rods with a razor sharp hook on the end with long wooden handles for leverage. Tools are called “bowl turning hooks” as they’re designed specifically for turning bowls. I’ll post some pictures at some point.
  7. Also managed to turn my first couple of nests of apple, turned from the same piece of timber. The little bowl sat in the centre of the large one. Bit of a ball ache to do.
  8. Turned from some skanky apple logs that would usually be a big nono for turning on a foot powered lathe. With the timber being infested with knots and rotten in the centre, runs a high risk of breaking on the lathe. Many did, these ones survived.
  9. Opportunity to due lots of turning again due to this lockdown. Experimenting with painting some.
  10. I'm done slacking. Here is some turned over the weekend, the wood used was crab apple i believe, came out pretty nice
