  1. Rob D on this forum chainsawbars.co.uk he'll give you all the advice you need and get you sorted, i'm ordering a 36'' Alaskan off him beginning of next week.
  2. An oak ring rocking seat with ash back and pine seat, made for a friend as a memorial seat for her late husband Eddie and to be handed down through her family, the names are burned into the ash back, i had to use coach bolts on this one as due to the weight it had to be re assembled on site. cheers for now Peter.
  3. I've been a little reluctant to post any pictures of my work after seeing the quality stuff you guys have been putting on here but hey we've all gotta start somewhere and i am just starting out, i'm no stranger to a chainsaw but i am to milling and carving, at the moment i'm milling free hand and have been scavenging off a wind blown ash that came down in a local wood about 4 years ago, i've been getting quite a bit of waist free handing through running off on the back of the cut so going on holiday next week and as soon as i get back i'll be ordering an Alaskan from Rob so i thought i would post a couple of pictures of the "before the mill" and then i can post some after i get the Alaskan, hope the pictures post the right way up this time. Ash garden seats.
  4. Hi, the finish is just Ronseal outdoor varnish, though these are a commission for indoors i think it gives a better finish than the interior stuff, cheers for now Pete.
  5. Hi, i had a similar piece to the one on the chair and cross cut it into sections and made some shrooms, cheers for now, Pete.
  6. Bloody hell guys i never gave that a thought, to loosen it i had to tap it clock wise, "does that put me in the danger zone" ? Pete.
  7. Hi all, i have been scavenging timber from a big old wind fall tree which blew down around 4 years ago, got most of the large limbs for carving and have started to hand mill the upper trunk 18'' to 20'' on site, the base of the tree will i think be around 40''+ can anyone identify this for me by the grain or do i need more pics ? cheers for now, Pete.
  8. Well i thank all you lads for your help and guidance and yes it was oil related, there was very little getting to the chain but i was using a great deal of oil, after doing what i was advised running the saw without the bar etc' i noticed no oil coming from the feed but was dripping from the bottom of the saw, in fact after taking out the worm gear for a look the oil pipe had actually came off the top end of the pump, tried running it and it seems fine now but haven't actually cut with it yet, thanks once again to you guys, much appreciated, cheers for now Pete.
  9. Cheers mate, first thing i did was clean the bar groove and oil holes and filed the top and bottom of the bar, tensioned it with brake on and off, didn't think to check oil flow when reving, i'll check that, thanks a lot mate, cheers for now Peter.
  10. Hi all, i have a Ryobi 4450 which has developed a problem, whilst plunge cutting the chain came to a halt and after checking it was so tight that it wouldn't turn, i have tried re tensioning the chain and no matter how loose i have it as soon as i disengage the brake and give it some revs it immediately tightens up and stops again, anyone got any ideas "apart from get rid" cheers for now Peter.
  11. Cheers guys, i guess not then, i was given the saw as second hand and it had been well abused, the chain was sharpened at the wrong angle and had also hit some nails etc' i wasn't familiar with chainsaws and after fitting a new chain the thing still wasn't cutting properly so after seeking advice on youtube and another forum i learned it was a chain oil problem so had to change the worm gear and file the heat burring off the bar and after that it works great, it has been cutting 20'' plus ash into 6' lengths and ripping it into 2'' - 3'' boards for garden seats with ease, would it be better used as a carving saw ? changing the sprocket and adding a dime tip bar ? thanks for your advice guys, cheers for now Peter.
  12. Hi all, can anyone tell me if my Ryobi 4450 20'' would drive a larger bar than the 20'' it has as standard, cheers guys.
  13. Cheers, i will get there eventually, just waiting on anew saw with dime tip then i may try another, cheers for now, Peter.
  14. Cheers mate but i must admit the reeds are a cheat, thin Hazel with a thicker piece of Hazel for the head drilled and glued, and pushed tightly into saw cuts, cheat but effective. Cheers for now Peter.
  15. Hi Nigel, looking forward to those photo's mate, i used black marbles for the bears eyes, i'll send you a link to your email address, chat soon, cheers for now Peter.
  16. Cheers Woodcrafter, i totally agree with you regarding the ears they are the first thing i see when i look at it, maybe get it right next time but quite happy with it overall, cheers mate, Peter.
  17. Oh no not again, can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong here and is there anyway i can correct these first 2 pics, cheers Peter.
  18. These are my first 3 chainsaw carving, roughed out with 20'' Ryobi and worked with a 16'' electric Grizzly and finished with angle grinder with sanding flaps and a bit of burning with a hot air gun "must get a blow torch", i hope these picks load up the right way up the last pics i posted were on their side, cheers for now Peter. Constructive criticism welcome.
  19. Just going for the basic husky 236 Nigel with dime tip and sprocket that's about all i can afford for now so it looks like the mill is on hold for a while but for the garden benches i have on order i can free hand those, still haven't received those pictures mate. Cheers for now Peter.
  20. Cheers Matty, been in touch with Dixons and they seem to have all that i need, thanks again mate, regards Peter.
  21. Hi all is there anywhere in the North East UK or there abouts where i could buy a ready to go saw fitted with dime tip ready for carving ??? cheers Peter.
  22. Hi all, i have recently bought a Mc Culloch 360T can anyone tell me if there is any way to slow the chain oil flow, there doesn't seem to be a manual adjuster on this saw and it is literally spraying oil from the bar tip, i'm filling the oil tank more than twice to fuel tank once maybe a little more, i know i should have waited and put a little more money by for a decent saw, cheers for now, Peter.
  23. My first attempt at a proper carving other than mushrooms, constructive criticism welcome, cheers for now, Peter. I can't understand why the photo has uploaded the wrong way up, can anyone tell me if i can rotate it in "edit".
  24. Cheers guys much appreciated, Regards Peter.
