  1. Being switched off is not good but being alive is surely AMAZING!
  2. Great point, well done... Another link for some facts on Male Breast Cancer The Facts - TOPLESSFEMALETRAMPOLININGWORLDCHAMPIONSHIPS.COM
  3. I am well aware that not all followers of Arbtalk are of the male species but I am also aware that almost 70% of men in the UK over 45 do not know anything about their Prostate or signs of Prostate Cancer and also the same number of men do not check themselves for Testicular Cancer ... So here is a basic awareness and links for further reading. Prostate Cancer stats= Most common cause of cancer in men in the UK, in 2011 there were 41,736 new cases. Most common cause of cancer death in UK after lung cancer, in 2012 there were 10,837 deaths. The Prostate= A small gland found in the pelvis of a man. The size of a Satsuma surrounds the Urethra (pee pipe). The prostate can naturally enlarge with age. The cancer does not normally show any symptoms until the cancer has grown. Some signs and symptoms= Increase frequency of urination, often at night. Urgency to urinate. Difficulty in starting to urinate, weak flow, straining or taking long time to urinate. Feeling like bladder not emptied fully. Near Naked Man Testicular Cancer stats= 2300 new cases of Testicular Cancer each year in UK. Accounts for 1% of male cancers in UK. More common for ages 15-49. One of the most treatable of cancers if caught EARLY! Some signs and symptoms= Lump or swelling size of pea or larger found in testicle. They are mostly not cancerous but they should NEVER BE IGNORED! Visit GP straight away. Dull ache or pain in testicles or scrotum, may not be constant. A collection of fluid in scrotum. General feeling of fatigue Raise awareness of testicular cancer - Mr Testicles - Male Cancer Awareness Campaign
  4. I think your right about the tabloid part... A story on cow parsley wouldn't be front page news. Wow Public Enemy number 1 in the 70s! It must have been a real gangster of a plant then!
  5. The HOGWEED closely related to Hogwarts, Cow Parsley and apparently also known as 'Taliban'! Seems to be sweeping the nation and causing havoc and intense burns to children and adults along the way! The blisters are Giganticusss! I am sure you are all well aware of its appearance (looks like Cow Parsley but larger) but did you know that the chemicals in the sap can cause photodermatitis which is a longer ongoing condition. This is where the skin becomes sensitive to sunlight and can cause a dermatitis type reaction to the area of skin that was exposed to the sap. Some of the signs and symptoms are sore, inflamed and itchy skin and maybe further blisters. Be aware of the WEED!
  6. I would think surely if you work outdoors your Vit D levels should be quite sufficient. Checked the NICE guidelines which many medical practitioners would follow and also for public to use and it does say Vit D from the sun is good for the body but also states the levels of sun people should receive has lots of variants depending on skin type, if you already have 50 or more moles, time of day, family history of melanoma etc.. Shade is better than sun cream, although sun cream should still be worn. UVA sun cream not just UVB. The typical British red tan is not good for the skin and if my doctor or dermatologist told me to cover up then I would be following those instructions rather than Google. Research is fantastic but it's 30,000 different individuals if all different demographics and possibly countries with different levels of sun, skin types, work back grounds etc. research is needed of course for medical advancements but until the medical practitioners pass on this information then findings are not a complete conclusive to not wearing sun protection.
  7. It says a certain amount of sunlight helps with the production of Vit D but the time and length of exposure will vary on many dependants such as skin type strength of rays etc.. But we should still cover up.
  8. Very sad indeed and far too young. We should never become too complacent as I am sure you all know in your line of work..
  9. I will have a read of this later but one persons research does not stop the fact that sun damage does cause Melanoma, FACT. If I had a choice over Vit D deficiency then I would sooner have that and take supplements. My friends Dad has just been diagnosed and he has been told it is years of not covering up or wearing a hat. Thanks for the input though.
  10. Melanoma in other words Skin Cancer. How many of us never wear sun cream thinking we are immune to the rays of the sun Working outdoors with only your string vest to protect you is not enough even when we believe the sun does not exist in our cloudy climate. The most common sign of Melanoma can be an unusual shaped mole or an existing one that has changed shape, size or colour. They may be itchy or bleed and are most commonly found on the arms, legs, face or back but can appear anywhere on the body. A quick A,B,C,D,E as a guidance for checking existing moles if concerned. A - Asymmetry (not even?) B - Border (grown?) C - Colour (changed?) D - Diameter (enlarged?) E - Elevation (increased?) BUT do not just use this as a definite, IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS go and get it checked out!!

  19. Yes its Holford Arms Pub about 2 miles from Westonburt apparently, think it maybe discounted for people visiting Arb Show..
  20. If your Umpa Lumpa size maybe.. 😄
  21. I'm staying at The Holford Arms, I'm sure there was talk of a Hog Roast. Certainly cheap enough to camp over night.
  22. I am sure as everything has side affects but this chap had been spraying WD40 on his knees for years! But always be cautious with anything and it seems to have helped Sandworks. There is a product called DEET which is an insect repellent but is very strong and can corrode plastic coatings on things which is a concern when you can spray it onto your skin!!
  23. I was told about a guy that has used WD40 for years on his knee joints as he believes it helps! The placebo affect is AAMMMAZZING, the power of the mind for medicinal purposes is so underrated..
  24. There are up to 3000 cases of Lyme Disease reported in England and Wales each year all because of those pesky ticks! Lyme Disease, if let untreated, can be very debilitating and painful. Eg- Painful joints, muscle pain, temporary paralysis of facial muscles, chronic fatigue. There is no real prevention against Tick bites apart from mainly covering up with long sleeves and trousers all of which must be exhausting whilst working outdoors in the heat?!? Some of the signs to look for are a red/pink rash around the area of the bite which can develop 3 to 30 days after initial bite, sometimes referred to as like a bulls eye on a dart board. No Bully prize though... Also flu like symptoms, not to mistake this with the Deathly Man Flu which of course there is no cure for. Treatment at early stage of recognition of Lyme Disease (via sign of rash) is Antibiotics. Later stage when the rash is not present, blood tests will be needed to confirm it is Lyme Disease and IV Antibiotics maybe the course of treatment. I recently spoke to someone that had suffered with Lyme Disease and it had taken him several months to recover! So don't ignore a tick bite especially if a rash appears afterwards..
