Price it per job. Don't sell time as you're then bound to it. Your mum might be able to bosh it out in 1/2 a day, but if you've quoted 8 hours you gotta stay there and make yourself look busy.
-
Just watched this again! I really like it. What's the music?

Funny enough I would rather climb a Lombardy than any other . It's basically straight up and down.
Have you seen the tree? I have and it's a mess. No drop zone so loads of rigging, throw into the mix some plonkers and you have one horrid tree
-
A horrid Lombardy poplar tomorrow. Subbing to a gardening company so will no doubt have a couple of morons trying to cut my climbing line on the ground

No offense but are you Kate moss twenty years ago? Still hiflex roomy! They are the tightest trousers known to man, only challenged by sip freedoms, the ones with the rainbow stitching.
Tbh I would get yourself down to your local supplier and try some trousers on.
Oh, I'm not massive but mine are nice. They're very stretchy which is perhaps what I meant. I don't find them tight though and there's a fair bit of space around the calfs. But yeah, go to your supplier and try some on. Heard good things about arbortec stuff.

Stihl hi flex are quite roomy. I have a pair of the dynamics as well and they are much tighter, even in the same size. The sizing seems to be all over the place and as a result, FR Jones don't send them via post. (I think)

A car made by Honda
I think the OP is referring to the timber being cordwood ie all the same length and not the unit measure of a cord which is just over 3.5 cubic meters of timber.
Bob
Ah ok, thanks. Always seen the word used but didn't know what people were on about. Many thanks aspen arb

Sorry to hijack the thread, but what's a 'cord'?

were the power lines in the risk assessment?

Can you post a picture of the chain? Depth gauges don't need dropping do they?
Don't get disheartened, loads of professionals can't sharpen a chain to save their life.
I was gonna say depth gauges as well. Try a bigger file, then go back to the correct size. If it's taking up this much time and energy just sack it off and get a new one:001_smile:

You know the drill, pictures or it didn't happen
edit to add, only kidding don't get arrested or anything stupid.
Haha, challenge accepted! She was only in Monday and Tuesday but she'll be back on Saturday for the assessment. Crapping myself about the assessment actually. I've got lots of experience in the industry but the theory and questions are starting to do my head in
-
I'm currently doing my cs30/31 (assessment on Saturday) and the hottest little sort turned up to do just the cs30 part. Couldn't believe it. Seeing her bent over in her stihl hi flex cross cutting timber was enough for me to lose concentration! She'd definitely get a spot on a calendar.

Pink wafers. Used to live on them as a kid and still love em now. Although recently I've been getting on very well with Wagon Wheels.
-
Cheers! I just copied and pasted the link if that helps.

Here's one me and another 'arbtalker' done on Saturday. We had to reduce some big limes for a couple of plonkers. I'm by no means a pro, but Ben's a very good climber and I enjoyed working with him. Footage isn't great, it turns out when I thought the GoPro was on, it wasn't

Another thing to bear in mind is that customers can smell desperation, you need to go in confident. Even if you have no work on you want to portray the image that you're not scratching around and desperate for this one job or they'll wonder why
Yeah, don't tell them you can do the job tomorrow!! Even if you can, give them a few days lead time perhaps.

waht about a battered newish truck??? just throwing it out there...
What about a battered cod or battered mars bar???
-
I also threw in a compliment at the end for you as I didn't want to come across too confrontational
-
When I say battered I mean 'used' it's not tatty.. I can say it because I have the comparison of going in a Range Rover that doesn't tend to yield work whereas the van does
-
How can you possibly say it gains you work? You can't quantify that. Do you ask them "did you choose me because of my shiny new van?" Or was it because you're professional, good at your job and established????
-
Yeah they are, Their garages are filled with motorbikes, boats, jetski's, flash cars etc. They are magnets for money.
Yeah, or they're crooks. It's funny though, my wife and I are privileged enough to own a nice car; if I take the car to a quote, I find, invariably, I don't get the quote. If I go in my battered van I'll get 8/10 of them. Customers don't like 'flash' as they feel they're funding a lifestyle instead of a job. Just my thoughts:001_smile:

Without seeing the job in question its a little difficult to say, but here goes.. You say you just started out. From your price structure, you're doing the job alone. So, perhaps, if it was me and a groundie who I might pay, say £90 a day and I've already got a chipper. I could prove it with me at £220, waste £60, groundie £90. That's £370 for the same job. Bang, I won the quote. Think about it, you'll top them out in a day, and drag the brash for a day. You get in another man for £90 to drag brash and you've reduced the quote by £100 already. Ok you don't get 2 days work from it, but perhaps it's not a 2 day job.

Got no input on the helmet, just that you mentioned about your helmet being smelly! Mine literally crawls away, it's rank.. I wash the padding every now and then but it doesn't last. I'd be interested to hear anyone that has experience with a lid that doesn't kick up after a week of wearing it!

They're no more expensive that Airstreams are they?
For 180 I expect 18 months minimum out of a pair of boots. My Airstreams are falling apart after just over 2 years. Apparently recent ones don't last as long.
The Scafel lite boots seem well built and sturdy, and the vibram sole seems to be made of harder stuff than the Airstreams too. They are a bit less flexible at first but considering I sprained my ankle pretty badly in my Airstreams perhaps that's no bad thing.
Sorry, I meant the scafell XER ones, think they're around the £220 mark. Really don't like the look of the new ones, but I'm a bit of a tart like that
Gardening rate per hour?

Ok. Skill dependant, £12ph is £96 a day. There's lads at work who are machines with an exceptional plant knowledge and earn £80 a day (I'm in London). To supply only hand tools I'd say £10ph is fair.
