  1. £5280 inc Ash with crane inc Grinding £3700 inc Eucalyptus ground level just rigging
  2. Got a pile of Ash logs coming from a job in Market Bosworth if anyone is interested? I'm running out of space in the yard due to redevelopment and hay season! Is anyone managing to sell (on a sustainable basis softwood timber). I need to decide whether to chip the logs or split them. Obviously the latter requires setting up sales side etc whereas the former requires some larger gear!
  3. One last throw of the dice on finding someone with the full skill set before I commit to plan B: Plan B: I will be looking for an experienced subby 1-2 days per week ongoing and another climber not at the level as described earlier but looking to develop, 5 days a week. The 5 day a week climber could be at any level as priority will be finding someone that fits with the rest of the team. Rates will reflect ability.
  4. Sums it up very nicely and eloquently, thanks. The package has always been open to discussion, mainly used S/e rates as the start as I thought the role would suit a climber that wants to have input into their environment and develop.
  5. Ok Re 3 jobs into 1. Not at all, the role re-training would be a phone call regarding a member of staff who needs development in an area, discussion as to how to develop them internal: put on certain jobs with foreman for some on site time, add easy jobs around day to create time etc. or send out house or I spend time with them. Equipment issues = "Mike we need this" = discussion as to benefit vs cost = then get it in. Really it means if foreman wants certain rigging, saws, truck design, chippers, ladders, loaders, unit layout, yard layout, etc they have input. Which means the efficiency of the business can be improved, this makes days easier, more productive and everyone more secure and happier! It is not a role to absorb time like running a business does, it would allow someone to switch off at home time, probably a phone call in the car a few nights a week. Re "Anyone with those skills would be doing it for themselves" - Not everyone wants to be working all hours / days which is particularly important when establishing a business. E.g. Some people may have children which they want to have time with and a role where they can be an active part in the business and therefore help create an environment they enjoy, whilst not having to worry about work flow, equipment, quotes, office work, accounts, advertising, managing staff, etc etc. Re salary I'm easy paye or S/E as stated. The earnings of £42k s/e would be just under the tax bracket for higher rate earning. Costs such as running vehicles can be offset against tax and pension development managed by the candidate. The package can be split in anyway but the ultimate cost per working day will be the same to the business. Certainly your suggestion of £30k + benefits would line up! Its a choice for the candidate! Re roles for current staff, yes working on it and no there is not a huge amount needs doing but I always aim to continue to improve. If I can get someone else in to aid with the development it gives another point of view and to sustain work flow I can only be on site 1 day per week. Essentially its a role for someone who wants to have input into shaping their own working environment but doesn't want to run a business. Re the training / Arb Association would be something I would look at, albeit the system I use won't be far off. And yes business is good and getting better although not bigger, hopefully!
  6. On the Brightside I have gone back to fully training and developing staff from within, which is better for the industry! and us! Starting to wonder whether it would be worthwhile getting together with a few other employers and developing a work based development program!
  7. Well time is a ticking and still not found a key person to join the team so added a little bit more to the day-rate, in the vague hope I can find someone before I've made one! 8. Hi Dbikeguy, the horses are still young and so its a gradual process. In a year or twos time when they are somewhat more experienced / safe! Then I'll probably be open to having people come along for a day or two to join in. We have a couple of Suffolk Punch which are still entire (colt/stallions) when they are fully armoured in harness etc they can be a little daunting if they lose their cool! Ultimately should be over 1ton per horse. Oh yes and still looking to fill this post!
  9. Still looking! All year round work! Generally look at bringing people in for a few days (paid) so both parties can have a look at each other / get to know the role / candidate. We are also hoping to get the horses into the woods this year (still young so gradual process), there will be opportunities for a bit of forestry / woodland management and horse logging.
  10. Still available. Now with the added perk of filter coffee in the morning!
  11. Arborist / Tree Surgery / Foreman Role Beddow Tree Specialists Salary S/E <£170 / day < 5days a week PAYE £26,000 - £31,000 Self Employed or PAYE We are looking to fill a key role within the team. 12. Weekdays only, I should of mentioned before someone comments on a long shift without a break.
  13. Hi we could accommodate a climber for the above dates to cover holiday leave. If you can do all, a few, some, just let me know and we'll get you booked in. Email: [email protected]
  14. Hi All, Not sure whether to start a new post or not, but anyway still looking.... We are looking for a key member within the team. You need to be fully experienced with a full skill set including crown reductions and sectional dismantling. Driving license, Trailer preferred but not essential. Good climber. Good with other people. Capable of setting and managing the pace. The role will incorporate development of other staff around you. This may on occasions lead to direction while other climbers do the business. In return, you will be part of the decision process for: equipment, work practise, safety protocols and staffing. The climbing is shared with 2-3 others so we are not looking to beast someone. However, I would be interested in competing climbers, maybe able to offer some support. So essentially its a role for someone looking to be more than just a number but to be a key guiding part. I believe it would suit someone that is either: A: Fully skilled and experienced and looking to reduce climbing from all day every day and developing other skills. or B: Fully skilled and very keen climber that is at the top of their game and wants to push on and have more impact on their surroundings. I would consider a 2 day slot. Mike
  15. Would that be a non climbing sales / management role down the line 5 shires? Pm if so as its something I have an eye on.
  16. No worries, its a free world with freedom of choice ? ?
  17. Some of the subby lads who work with me, work at weekends on their own stuff as well, if they are injured on their own work it would mean the business would bear a cost during the recovery period if PAYE, they choose s/e as it fits their situation. A lot of the climbers I have worked with, work more than 5 days most weeks anyway, particularly when they are trying to save for a house or travels etc. The self employed option can be very tax efficient for the subby, particularly if VAT registered. It also means they can do a short period e.g. till they go back to whatever other country they work in. From a business point of view it makes very little difference, a full time PAYE roll will have the same cost to the business as a self employed position just the subby takes more home and sorts out their own tax etc. With S/E there is also an option to split the 5 days into a 2 and 3 day slot. I don't think from the rates I am prepared to pay it shows I am looking to short change someone. The role also offers PAYE so really all in all most bases covered. Ultimately the decision rests with the climber anyway. I'm not fishing with barbed hooks! It wouldn't be in either parties interest to start a working relationship without being fully happy and committed as neither party will benefit long term. Some of the S/E climbers are aware of highs and lows in work flow and payment issues when bouncing around some companies (this is not slander just based on feedback from subbys), they may think that'll suit me as its one place, I'll get paid weekly and I don't need to worry about chasing bookings for 6mths. They may think that place sounds like its for me, I'll start S/E to check it out and if everything is good I'll switch to PAYE. The business does have horses but more for logging than racing ?
  18. Thankyou 5 Shires. Still looking for a good climber to come and be part of it. Trial days are fully paid if you fancy a change of scenery or want to come and have a look.
  19. Thinking about the laces problem, I reckon there's scope for a jingly jangly shiny metal device to solve this job stopping problem! On another note still looking for a decent climber.
  20. Hi indeed Mark, but sadly wouldn't of generated so many hits! The reason for the tone was to stimulate some interest otherwise the job adverts just sit there without any real impact. It has been successful in that respect! Also I use Meindl woodwalkers, but never found a problem with the laces, coming undone! I use a half hitch followed by a single bow, if that helps anyone with that problem! ?
  21. Hi Mark thanks for your comments, you are more than welcome to join us for a day, Can't really see what you're on about, the categories are tongue in cheek but we all know the skives. Work environment should be positive, it is about the team pulling together to achieve a goal. When all parties pull together: work becomes easy, everybody enjoys being part of it, targets are achieved, the business makes money, everyone earns more, more training budget, frees up time to spend developing less skilled staff and we still enjoy the fantastic job we all love. Rushing during tree work is not an option and you maybe noted that none of the categories push the pace. Most of the tree surgeons I have known who rushed are dead or damaged and that is not my intention. Remember when you started Gary, what were your views of climbers that didn't drag at all? The post is to attract persons with a similar mindset as I am tired of watching potentially good lads being manipulated and dragged down by others around them who more often have greater experience. The post is for someone with a similar work ethic that wants to work shoulder to shoulder in an environment that fits their beliefs.
  22. Probably should have summarised: Basically if you have a good work ethic, enjoy the job with a smile and want to work as part of a positive crew with likeminded individuals, please get in touch.
  23. Hi looking for a climber 5 days a week self employed ideally, with option of Paye if required. From support climber to fully experienced. £110-170 per day depending on experience. Please note we are looking for someone who is prepared to work as part of a team, if you like to work with people who get on with the job then you will fit in. If you ever think the following then you won't fit in: "I've done my bit I'll sit in the truck and watch everyone else work" "if I make a career move over this last branch then I won't have to drag a branch" "Ooh Great! No ones on the blower yet" "there's 30mins to finish the tree, but I'll come down now for a break" "branches can be dropped at any angle, its not my job to move them" "I think this will work" "I know everything" "the jobs so hard" "I can't get my head round the fact I work for a business and it needs to make money, surely I should get all of it" "its not my fault; its the pixies, its the shed - it moved, the branch was an impossible shape to tie to a rope, it should never of bounced like that, the 50th branch I removed was surprisingly heavy compared to the previous 49, It was a miracle!" "Rather than crack on and wrap the job up I'm going to whinge and whine and make everyone else carry me and then late!" Must have tickets etc! Driving license too. All year round work, domestic so no avenues of street trees but some very large technical takedowns. We have a mewp in house, so ipaf would be handy. We would also be interested in a climber 1 day a week that would be prepared to aid in development of other staff. This may be a suitable slot for an NPTC trainer. Long or short term would be considered. Rates negotiable and days could be adhoc if we have enough notice. Ideally we would like the full time appointment to cover this but on the grounds its unlikely please get in touch. If interested please email [email protected] Obviously I realise I am also asking for a miracle, but I have to keep the faith...
