Thanks for the replys I prob should state I live in Ireland and haven't looked into it too much just made a phone call today to the nsai (national standards of Ireland) to be told an engineer prob won't pass timber that is not stamped and if he did I could run into trouble if I decided to sell after I have access to Norway spruce and now I'm wondering how would I get it tested

As per title can i cut my own roofing timbers for my own house or do i need to get them stress tested if so how do i go about this i know laws might be different in the uk but maybe someone might be able to help.

I know the most popular size I use would be 1 inch 2 inch for tops and the like what I don't know much about is milling from what I read burr timbers are hard to dry (warping splitting and the like) and I still have half that log left so that's what I was worried about really. Thanks for the price range as I said I haven't come across burr oak for sale around

How much is a lot of money and what thickness is most popular for burr oak. I'm a cabinet maker myself and never come across timber like this I bought the woodmizer and built a solar kiln (which I now regret since I seen big js kiln) because I cannot get native timber it's all imported American hardwood since Coillte closed their mill

Ya would have been better to cut it thru, anyone got an idea what boards like that be worth per cubic foot

Managed to cut some of this log yesterday ended up splitting it in half and milling it on the Woodmizer pretty happy with the result.

Hi thanks for your replies, my only problem is I have no need for a small chainsaw mill would just need it to break down big logs for the woodmizer, I have 5 logs that are 2 big the biggest bein a 5ft diameter oak. I know a man with a 36in Alaskan who I think would be willing to help me out but from what u say my saws might not be up to that big a bar?

Hi would this system work with an 036 and 441 so it would and what would else would I need to buy to get started. Sorry to bother ye but I am a complete novice where chainsaw milling is concerned.

The log is going from 4ft to just under 3ft and it was a struggle to cut the other log off that tree

I think a chainsaw mill would be best i know of one around but he can only cut 28 inches

There is one he has a big stenner but lifting transporting and cutting not sure what it would cost but I'm not in a hurry to cut it. I cut the other log off it just about, had to do a bit of trimming some really nice boards so don't want to waste it there a lot more burr on this section

Thanks for posting the pictures they look good better than I taught, I still would like to rotate and cut but it's too big for me to do anything else with it.thanks again:thumbup:

Hi thanks for the responses , I made a mess of this it's my first time posting and I made two threads! I would love to be able to cut and rotate but the log is too big for my mill and I have no chainsaw mill think I'm going to have to half it freehand and then mill it like was said on the other thread was just worried the quarter sawn boards would not look as good but having seen the pictures copford sawmills posted maybe it's not as bad as I taught. Halving it should be interesting:001_unsure:
