Thinking of a Christmas pressie and I liked these.

Come across a "promax" 4500amp, 4.2kva generator for £295. Second hand but that should run my 2200w log splitter ok!?

4500 amp does not sound correct me cos that is massive.

When I made my bench for the top I went to the local builders merchants to see if they had any reject fire door blanks, after a couple of weeks they did and put it aside for me, made a good solid top for my bench that did. Just a wee suggestion for once you have your frame made.

So, you have two solar panels on your roof, who paid for em, you or me an everyone else?...

 

putting aside any suspected subsidy, why would you heat up the house just to take a shower in summer, theres some inefficiency going on there..

better take a cold shower if your asking me, nice an bracing, puts hairs on your chest...

 

I'm also presuming the woods free or next to nothing in cost, that being the case does it matter if it takes an extra ten minutes to warm the hot water up?...

I paid for the solar panels thermal not PV remember so nowt added to your leccy bill to subsidise them, as I said i got them 8 years ago before the whole solar PV and RHI took off.

Yes wood is mostly free (chainsaw fuel) money wise, but it still costs me in time and labour in cutting, moving, splitting and stacking so the panels save me burning a load of wood. Also remember when it comes to efficiency if my memory serves me correctly the solar thermal panels are 85% efficient, much better than power stations at 30% efficiency or many other types of power than we use in our every day lives.

Back to the original post about the hybrid genny I have no idea how good or bad the idea/ product is as this is the first I have heard of it.

Don't think they are all a waste of time, I got 2 solar thermal panels fitted on my place about 8 years ago, they have been brilliant, in the summer I no longer have to light my wood burner and open the windows just so that I can have a hot shower. In the winter it gives a water a nice preheat so the woodburner puts the heat quicker into the radiators rather than bringing the hot water cylinder up to 60 deg C.

New one to me that is never heard of them, Firefly to me was a distress strobe when I was out in the hills

Do you mean a petrol generator running on LPG which is a conversation I fancy doing.

I try to keep a few chunky ones in each load for the ones I put in the wood burner before I go to bed, sometimes I am even left with a few glowing embers in the morning.

Hi sleeker, I am a sparky to trade although I am retired, I could however make use of these for a home project, I am about 5 miles along the road from you.

If nobody else wants them and you still have them, I can pop in and get them and I will give them a good home.

Certainly a wealth of info on here and a helpful friendly forum.

When I was in the woods this morning I went of my usual route and found a variety of tree I didn't know I had, Sessile Oak, I have probably walked past in the past just never noticed it, probably because it still has leaves on it where the rest have mostly fallen.

Going to try and post a random picture just to see if I can, it is just a picture of some of my logs drying.

Hi folks, been reading on here for a while now, looks like a good forum so time to come out of the cold:001_smile:

I bought a smallish woodland about 10 years ago, bit neglected, consisting of mainly sycamore, birch, goat willow and some ash. I spend a lot of my time now pottering in the woods as I love it. Got tons and tons of rhododendron which is my never ending battle of pulling out. I also chainsaw and split and dry out mainly the wind fall trees to feed my log burner.

I have had no formal training in the use of my saws so I would probably make most of you cringe if you saw me:biggrin: although I like to think I have a sensible head when needs must.

Used Rob on here for supplying chainsaw bars and chains for me, what a helpful bloke.

Look forward to being educated on here some more.
