  1. I would avoid the 4 mix if I were you!

Heard good things about Honda stuff but a bit over budget (about £350 for the engine 35cc one and another £225 I think for long reach trimmer) I've borrowed one of these and it's brilliant if a little heavy and the engines are bullet proof. I will be getting one in time for my hedge cutting in the autumn, I don't do many in the rest of the year and no tall ones anyway. If I get asked to do one before I will buy it sooner though!

  2. Not worth trying imo as either you do you're back in trying to lift it or worse you lose control of it and it lands on you.

2 people maybe lift it if there are decent hand holds. Getting it out again will be as bad if not worse I think.

I've got a howard 350 rotavator and I have no idea how much it weighs but it's probably less than 125 kg and I can't push it up ramp into trailer have to drive it up.

Maybe I'm just getting old though!!

  3. I use leafletfrog for flyers. They're only well priced if you go above 5000 flyers which is quite a lot to hand out but its free for double side and double thickness flyers.

What thickness did you get I've just looked at them and they seem to be a good price. What's the quality like?

    Thanks in advance

  4. I got the waste license as its better to be safe and all that, I phoned council when I first started and they told me that I should be taking all a risings from people's property and not using green bins as if I have created the waste its commercial and not allowed in the green bin as that is for domestic waste only!

  5. I think property depends on how much you buy for in the first place. If it a £30k house then rent is going to be cheap and the tenants may not be brilliant, if you have a place to rent for £1000 per month then you should in theory have less problems( doctors on 2 year contracts etc) but it's always going to be a risk.

If you don't want risk risk leave it in a current/savings account losing money(inflation wise)

Or better still buy something nice with it!!

  6. Have a look at Nomix sprayers not cheap but 5l will last you all day. When I'm spraying shrub beds I start about 9.30 and finish about 3.30 and use about 5L. It's light on your back don't have to keep filling up with water. There are based in Andover, hampsire

How does it last all day? Is that just spot spraying?

How good is it over bigger areas?

Sounds too good to be true, I don't doubt you its just surprising.

  7. Do the best you can to leave a good job behind you, tidy job, and friendly. Treat your customers like it was the king and queen you was working for.

Travel around and check your surrounding, don't be afraid to knock doors if you see a tree you think could be taken out or shaped. To be confident is the most important factor to success.

For me when i started doing trees some while back the local papers was my main income, Have a tidy vehicle with a logo on it.

    Always smile.

When i did the tree surgery i target only areas where i knew folks had money, the reason for that is they do understand we all trying to meet the ends and you don't have to cut your prices to low.

The last thing I would want as a homeowner is someone knocking on my door asking to take down a tree. It would make me think of "traveling" people just doing a bit of tarmacing in the area who happen to have a bit left!"

Put a card through yes but knocking on the door is a big no no for me.

If people want work doing they are capable of looking online /yellow pages etc and getting quotes.(and the people who aren't are probably vulnerable and should be left alone imo.

A bit rogue trader ish if you ask me.

  8. I don't see how anyone can justify doing it when it's frozen. There is always other work that could be done in a garden. And if there isn't any in that garden there should be somewhere else. And you are not helping yourself by doing it as it will ruin it and probably lose you the customer. You need to be charging enough through spring summer and autumn to set enough aside for the winter. Just my opinion.

  9. I think that if you want to be a h and s person then you should at least have formal training and at least 5 years working experience in whatever field you want to judge on.

I don't see how a one size fits all approach can work without the consultant just p******* people off.

  10. Thanks Richard.

To be honest its very easy for us to rank well with the search you used. The word 'lawnmower' can be found time and time again in the text of the site, as can 'Sidmouth' because, after all, Sidmouth is part of our postal address.

Exmouth is just as close to us but its more difficult to rank highly there simply because it takes more thought to include the word 'Exmouth' in the site text.

I am spending many hours writing the text, and rewriting it. And doing searches to see how the site performs.

I found we were doing poorly in anything related to 'strimmer', simply because I always refer to them as 'brushcutters' when I write content.

Some people may search for 'grass cutter repairs' in which case our site will never appear because I have never thought to include those terms.

I just thought I try it as that is how I would look for it here in lincoln if I did not know where to buy from cheers Richard

If i wanted a strimmer I would use the same search though on the assumption that if you sell mowers you sell strimmers .
