  1. Utterly brilliant thank you
  2. Never had a problem with mine... Good choice of line see's it through most things. If all you want to do all day is go through wet thick stuff then do buy something bigger as jamie suggests or you'll struggle.
  3. I've had the FS94 for a couple of seasons now and I can't fault it ... It's needed nothing from me other than grease at the head and it's easy on the fingers and arms. I can happily use it for a couple of hours straight. If it broke tomorrow I'd buy another!
  4. I was just wondering about that... The bump heads can certainly get warm with prolonged use... I'm starting to wonder if I should leave my fs94r with its nose in a bucket of water...
  5. Oh yes I remember now ... seems like so long ago Can I ask what kind of workload that picture represents? I assume it's more than an hour and less than 1000...
  6. I'm on the 2.4mm Diamond Edge stuff and I like it a lot... it's the bump head that gives me grief! I'll take a look at the jet fit head as well as the portek ... I can't really see what it is between them that matters
  7. That sounds like my kind of lazy I've been using fairly liberal amounts of WD40 in a bump head which seems to help a lot with longevity and sticking... Was thinking of upgrading to a thicker line and a portek head so I guess we'll see if my inner lazy bastard gets the better of me
  8. Is this something you do every time before use or once before loading it into the head?
  9. Wow! Shows how much I know about this stuff! What exactly is the benefit to this, strength/flexibility?
  10. Really? I wouldn't have imagined for 1 second that the cord would be porous
  11. Makita ... been running them for years and I still have one of my old 12V Mh jobbies for stuff around the house!
  12. Well that I guess is what you'd call a 'love bite' from your saw... Balls mate, that's what it took to put yourself up here after doing that ... one handed as well ... Ignoring the useless commentators and sightseers on the matter, cheers, cheers for being honest and showing the uninitiated (myself included) what can happen if you make a mistake (be it lack of attention, training, experience or insert reason here) with one of those evil saws! I've done the damaged tendon and muscle thing (on a much lighter scale) and can assure you that the road of recovery is a long one but very much achievable... Do the exercises, it'll hurt but it'll halve your recovery time! Don't forget the recovery photo's and any decent nurses along the way wouldn't go amiss... ask them first they'll often pose
  13. Very well put... I'll back up the vote on the mix of Hawthorn and Pyracantha ... NO ONE will try and go through the stuff without a suit of armour! Having had personal experience of the combination as a rather worse for wear teenager many years ago (not such a good short cut as it turned out) which resulted in my mam screaming that I'd been hit by a car... I still bear a couple of scars from that ... thank buggery I was sozzled she covered me in TCP!
  14. How well I know that song
  15. Is that the stuff by Oregon?
  16. Yes I'd be interested in this also ...
  17. I've not tried the bigger stuff but good quality 2.4mm stuff seems to do the majority of what I need without issue... Sometimes I'll make it work harder than it should and I should buy a real of the 3mm to try out... perhaps I'll splash out on the Portek head and some 4mm for bigger work in the new year...
  18. They've got mine... Great stuff that works well ... a lot easier on the ears ... yet to try the free samples...
  19. Strim Off Strim Off Strim Off Strim Off Strim Off ... cough ... sorry ... got carried away... Best not to chant that at the actual meet ... the likelihood of folk having had a drink or three and swapping the 'm' for a 'p' is quite high and I'm sure non of us want to see that!
  20. Well I decided to go with the recommendation and try the Desert Extrusion stuff as I've still got a good chunk of stihl if needed... I asked for some free samples and the company were incredibly polite and forthcoming... I've not tried them yet but the diamond edge stuff is absolutely fine... In comparison it tends to break towards the end and not close to the bump head which is nice... Price wise it was less than a twenty posted and it arrived two days after ordering for 150m odd ... Very happy so far... Now I've got to look at the alternative heads talked about further up the thread... Again, I'm open to suggestions...
  21. I use the quick load stihl bump head... I wouldn't mind giving a 'new fangled head' a try but apart from the 'bump' wearing out I'm not completely sure what the advantage is to them? Possibly longevity being that they're made of tougher materials?
  22. Well this certainly went in an interesting direction since I last looked Lots to look into... I'm going to order some of that diamond edge stuff... I'm going to keep a standard stihl mowing head with normal round stuff loaded as well for those lighter days on weekly work... The rough jobs with the warm wet weather have me working hard of late... The less strimmer line I reload the better!
  23. Fair game... I asked for that I was more intrigued as to how the line is fixed... Cheers chaps... now I've got the name to the gear... I'll take a look... Fantastic... cheers... I'll give them a shout and see if I can get a bit of sample line to try out... Once again ... thanks for the comments and advice folks...
  24. I did wonder if some sort of spray might do the trick... I also have TEF dry lube which I wondered about... Bloody hell what the heck is that?!? How does that work?
  25. Wow... fantastic reply folks... some great info there cheers... I've tried the standard round stuff, a short length of square which did indeed bind like a bitch! It's actually the Pentagonal stuff (I think?) I'm trying now... supposed to be the toughest of the tough... Fitted in a C-25 head (the quick load one) The suggestion that I'm not bumping it out often enough rings true but also the binding of the line in the head is accurate as one side seemed easy to bump where the other stoically refused to come out at times. The folks over the pond seem to have a massive selection of line available to them... It seems more limited here... I'll maybe take another look at a thicker line as some suggest... the reduced volume vs longevity may pay off Once again... thanks for the prompt and friendly reply folks... much appreciated
