  1. I wonder if someone could give me some advice? I have a large poplar tree about 20 metres from the house which spreads into about 7 limbs. Storms always hit us from the other side of the tree blowing it towards the house. My question is, how stable are poplars? Although I don't like cutting healthy trees down, I feel somewhat vulnerable watching those limbs thrashing around in the storms. Would I be advised to take the tree down or even have it done severely cut back? I know some trees don't take kindly to reductions Thanks for your advice
  2. So nearly three years down the road and the Hilux still smokes. After the injector change it started smoking about a couple weeks later. Every time I took the car back to the suppliers - Snow's Toyota (Hedge End) - they gave me the same old story - "Its smoking because it has such low mileage". On April 2nd 2019,with about 10k miles on the clock, I took it back to Snow's and asked them to please sort it out once and for all. They have had it for 9 months now and they tell me they have tried this and tried that but they can't ascertain why it's smoking and do I want them to carry on looking for the problem or do I want to come and collect my car? I feel they are trying to wear me down with time and so give up and collect the car with a still smoking exhaust. Thankfully I'm retired and don't depend on the car for my livelihood. In the meantime I continue the wait driving around in my little rinky-dink Aygo courtesy car. If I take the car back now, is it going to pass MOTs a year or two down the road? What about its resale value? So where do I go from here?
  3. I can't find the section where we can list our equipment and serial numbers, etc. Does it still exist?
  4. I have been using an MS211 for about 7 years for general cutting around my home. Although it's done me well, it's a bit tired and I would like to replace it with another Stihl about the same weight but a pro model with a good performance - I have a lot of work coming up this winter. Can someone please recommend a suitable Stihl replacement? Many thanks
  5. If that's a Sycamore, what is this then? I always thought this was Sycamore
  6. Seems to be fine now. I agree - I'd have thought such a basic problem would have been easier to diagnose. They seemed to be obsessed with 'contacting Toyota to see what they want us to do next' - presumably because it is still under guarantee. A couple of weeks earlier they completely replaced the main wiring loom because the engine warning light kept on illuminating. Apparently that fault was not related to the injector fault. Methinks I got a Friday afternoon model here
  7. So they eventually called me and said it was "much better". So I went and checked it out only to find there was no change - still smoking. So I asked them please not to call me again unless it's fixed or replaced. Then they called again yesterday and said that they changed the injectors and that its now definitely sorted. That seems to have done the trick - no more smoke. Can't understand why the injectors needed changing after only 5000 miles
  8. I’ll mention it but surely they would have thought of that? They have had my car for weeks trying to resolve this. I'd have thought a stuck EGR valve would have been an early consideration. I guess it's worth a mention though. Thanks
  9. That's the way I'm thinking. There was no progression - one day its fine, next day its smoking after the warning light comes on
  10. I'm sure they've looked at the most obvious things. I get the impression they want me out of their lives!
  11. Idling when warm. Only one service so far due to low mileage but serviced at the correct time by the dealers.
  12. I have a low-mileage Hilux - 5000mls - 2015 model. The engine warning light on the dash came on one day and stayed on for about two engine cycles, and then extinguished. About then I noticed the exhaust was smoking when the car was idling. I took the car back to the dealership and asked them to sort it out since it is still under guarantee. I understand they changed the DPF. Well after about 30 miles or so, the engine warning light came on and again, black smoke was observed from the exhaust when idling. I took it back and they told me that they believe it was faulty wiring to the exhaust system that was causing this problem. So they put in a temporary connection to see if the engine warning light was going to come back. Well, it didn't but the smoking never stopped. They asked me to bring the car back and they've had it for about 3 weeks now. They completely replaced a wiring loom and they phone me this morning and tell me that "its much better". I asked them if it was still smoking and they said "Well yes it is but we don't think as much and we think the reason is because you travel short distances" I don't know it just doesn't sound right - no sign of smoke until the first time the engine warning light came on, then suddenly I have a smoking exhaust! About a week ago I was parked at Tescos behind a '14 reg Hilux that was idling - I saw no trace of smoke at all Could I ask a favour of any reasonably low-mileage Hilux owner who reads this to report back and let me know what sort of smoke emissions they observe from their idling vehicle? I have to know what's acceptable before agreeing to collect my car Many thanks
  13. Can somebody please identify this tree for me? Thank you
  14. How many of you who have tattoos wished you had never had them done? That's the problem - they're with you forever and a day! If there was technology to lose them after a year or so, I might consider it, otherwise I wouldn't risk regretting it
  15. 3/10? I should manage that then, even being the half-wit that I am! Thanks for that info
  16. Kubota A-17 Aste. I've scoured the net but can't find any diagrams
  17. I mean "would the bearing come out with the COVER or stay behind?"
  18. Its the 'bearing' aspect that concerns me. Where is/are the bearing/s? Will the bearing come out with the case or stay behind? By removing the cover, is there a chance that I'm going to damage a bearing? The tractor is a grey import so I have to be careful with my spares requirements
  19. Good idea Bob - but there doesn't seem to be much 'meat' on the seal to screw the self tapper into
  20. Some advice required please: I need to change the PTO seal on my compact tractor. I don't have a workshop manual but the best way I can see is to remove the seal housing cover and then replacing the seal once its off. Is the cover likely to be easy to remove? What traps await an unsuspecting amateur? Any help would be much appreciated
  21. Can someone advise me please? I want to reduce this Magnolia by about a third, in height as well as width. How hardy are they? Is this something I should leave to the experts or could I take my hedgetrimmer to it without fear of killing it?
