    After gauging interest up for sale is our trusty Ford 7710 winching tractor. Specs: - 97HP - 8200 hours - Starts and runs on the button - Good tyres - Brakes perfect - Shifts through all gears no problem - Front 3 point linkage - Igland Double Drum PTO winch mounted on rear with direct chain to cog drive. Each drum has 30m length cables with two sliders on each. This winch is solid and a testament to its build quality and the 7710 gives it plenty of grunt. - Forestry spec'd skid guards for underbody and cab. - Not road registered - Cab is in need of a bit of TLC as can be seen in photos. But nothing a new seat and a couple of hours welding some of the window sills won't fix. These old Ford's are simple solid workhorses that are easy to work on, cheap parts and built to last. Sad to see her go but she is just not getting used now. Will be perfect on a woodland contract for someone to quickly bring in some coin. Tractor is in Bangor, North Wales. I can easily arrange Haulage country wide. Price is +VAT

    Its a general H&S tree report, walk over survey. Roughly 150 trees, client wishes to see site overview map and then report tables with associated photos will be fine. However, I am likely to be undertaking more BS5837 surveys in the future also. I have access to Autocad on my laptop, so looking for my best options for making my life easier but not bankrupting me! Cheers!

    Hi Guys, Looking for some very basic software that would simply enable me to GPS tag tree's on the ground and then produce these tags onto an aerial/OS type map. Is there any free/opensource software programmes people are using or is it a case of going for producers like Ezytreev and Pear Technology? Many thanks!

    Hi guys, Got a weigh up on these 2 machines. The Rayco RG13 is 2010, but is as good as new really. 190kg, direct drive, rayco super teeth, 18 inch cut below deck. Honda 13HP. Rock Machinery SGR-33 - Brand New with warranty, 135kg, drive belt system, 8 green teeth, 16inch below deck cut. Briggs & Stratton 13hp I can get both for £2k. Just concerned on build quality of the Rock Machinery model and longevity compared to the Rayco. Any thoughts please? Cheers

    Hi Guys, Thanks for the responses. Yes, my main concern was around the 3/8 chain being up to the task and not overstressing any working parts due to the lo-pro not being rated for the 880. I'll just stick with the 404 then! Thanks again

    Hi Guys, Looking to get a new setup on the 880 for milling. Was considering changing from .404 ripping chain to 3/8 lo pro chain, gb bar and sprocket to match. I realise this is not rated for the 880, any opinions? Many thanks

    Hi guys, I'm replanting 2.05 ha on a local estate in the next couple of weeks. 30% Sitka, 20% Lodegpole then 50% mixed broadleaves. There will likely be lots more planting on the estate in the next few years, I am curious as to opinions on what planting equipment you would recommend? We were just going to go in with spades/spits and make shift sacks to hold the trees! Worth investment in other gear? All the best James

    Hi Guys, I'm after some advice on what banks people use for their business use. I am currently just using a current personal account but need to change this so all business use just stays in the one account rather than mixing it with my non-business personal spends! Is it worth staying with a current/personal account, but just a new separate one from my personal spends? Or a specific business account? My turnover is only low <£15k per annum. Any ideas on good banks/account ideas out there? Cheers James

    Hi Guys, Been struggling to find an 880 of Ebay and such at a decent price for a while now. My local dealer has offered me a new 880 with 48 inch bar and chain at £1260 inc vat. This seems like a fair price, what do you guys think? Needed for milling. Cheers

    As per the title, I'm looking at possibly buying a 2-3 year old Botex 8 tonne trailer with crane. Has barely been used and is spot on, only a couple of jobs. Seller bought it for about £12-£13000 + VAT. He is looking for about £10k... Seems a bit steep to me considering depreciation maybe...what do you guys think? I would be looking more in the region of £8k maybe? Cheers

    Hi everyone, Just looking for some opinions/experience on choice of and mounting an electric winch to a pick-up. Looking at options below £400 from ebay sellers such as this on: Superwinch Tiger Shark 9500 12v Electric Winch | eBay Are mounting winches like this to the front of a pick up quite simple? Also do these 'entry level' winches look good value for money? All the specs seem good! Thanks very much

    Thanks Chris, Yes unfortunately it seems England has benefited a lot more in terms of grant aid this year so far unfortunately! I completely agree re: local woods, I'm starting to make waves here on Anglesey which is great, just need a bit of a boost equipment wise! Cheers

I'm waiting to here from my local Business Wales advisor in Bangor but would be keen on other peoples experience/ funding pools which might be overlooked by my local office. Thanks!

    Thanks for all the insightful replies guys, very helpful and confirming a lot of suspicions I already had about the economics of it. A lot of the trees are of good 'millable' quality on the main stems, however I wouldn't say there would be enough to form an artic load for the local sawmill. So I'm thinking I would be better getting the Alaskan out on site, selling the planks to local woodturners etc. and as another user has suggested, having the remaining firewood as a bonus. After I have hopefully struck a deal with the landowner that is!

    Hi guys, I am looking for some guidance on pricing up timber for sale. Local landowners have trees which have failed and are mostly lying on the ground (Hardwoods of varying diameters) and they are looking to sell them for the best price they can get. I'm thinking the average roadside price for hardwoods is roughly £45 tonne/m3 at the moment? but I would have to take my processing time into consideration to get the timber into what would be a normal roadside marketable form. Has anyone had any similar experiences and how did you price the timber up? Also the trees are dotted all over various woodlands and fields, so forwarding won't be a quick drive by job. Thanks

    Hi Guys, I've got myself booked on a local rigging course next month but would really appreciate some guidance from yourselves first. I have bought an ISC large portawrap and Marlow Whoopie Sling Extreme, I am confident on how to wrap my lowering rope around the portawrap but as to how I attach the whoopie sling in question to either the tree and the portawrap I am stumped...? Would like to get this practice down before my course so any help please, pics much appreciated if possible! Thanks

    Hi all, I'll make my first post here hopefully an easy one for those who can help me please. I have forgotten how to wrap my 3 metre DBH tape up so that it stores nicely! I seem to remember it has something to do with doubling back part of the tape on the D-ring when you are nearly finished wrapping me, but for the life of me I can't remember and it's an annoying niggle! Thanks to anyone who can help me with this.
